Yes...it's here. And I must say, it's one tricky but sweet piece of work. Still don't see any extra belles and whistles, but the gun color was changed at the last minute....it's BLACK with SILVER paint.
I'll be using my Superlink Superion set because I like that one more than the ROTF Superion set. Which will receive the first set of the appendage kit next year. I'm done buying things until the new year.
And now pictures!!!
Appendages....what appendages?
The packaging, TFSource special tag, comic book preview, and instructions (color):
Using the add-ons are not easy, and require some care. However, the parts are durable, and very well crafted. They almost feel like a Valkyrie/Veritech fastpack for all five vehicle/robot modes. After looking at the pictures of the first add-on kit, the paint job is much nicer. Almost looks like a production model, while the first appendage set looks like a prototype.
Silverbolt/Afterburner(leader):
These are the feet and hands. They hands have some articulation. The hands are stored in the feet and are added to Silverbolt. The gun fits in the back center of the jet mode. Amazing
Jet Mode:
Robot mode:
He looks like he has extra thrusters, and now a weapon for the leader!
Skydive and Slingshot:
Please note, the radar dish breaks into four parts to add stability to the feet portion. The parts only make up for one radar dish. There are two guns however for both robots, which is fine by me. I'm also not happy about how the parts look hanging off one of them. I see FansProject may have been at a loss on what to do with the parts, except to make one robot look different than the other.
Air Raider and Firebolt:
I love the simple design off the add-on for these two. They remind me of the leg armors on the valkyries from Macross. They give them a nice look. The surprise was only one leg is used to create the overall arm. Slick!
Now putting it all together:
Arms
Legs. Interesting parts overall. You first place the legs into the feet (Still not right), then you split the radar dish into four halves. The silver pipes from the feet go into the gold parts from the broken up radar dish, giving the feet and legs a hydraulic look. The guns also give it a hydraulics' look when placed into the holes near the cockpits of Slingshot and Skydive.
Now the final part:
I like this paint scheme better on this version of Superion. Works better on the Superlink/Energon version than the gray set.
Overall, I love this set. I love the way it looks, and feels. The fact that the gun color was changed to black with the detailing is a nice touch. If I wasn't sold, I am now. It is a must have if you plan on getting the future Bruticus set. 2010 is going to be a great year, and FansProject knows it!!!
Merry Christmas Seibertronians. We are a bunch of nuts!!!

This Snowman set is great if you have the Energon version, though.

I like the G1 accuracy but I still like the original set's colours.

Honestly, I don't know either. In fact, when you change either A-10 to robot mode, the pieces from the radar dish look very odd just hangin out on the sides of the wings. It's as if FP could not figure out what to do with them.

If you are referring to the "Holiday Bells and Whistles", then so did the rest of us. I received mine and was impressed that it atroves before Christmas but it was a gift to myself and I will be leaving it sealed in the bubble wrap it came in as I have the original already, it does look nice though.

It's OK. But it's the color of the leg parts that throw it off. The only accuracy to G1 is Silverbolt's colors. Everything else is as usual off-center. The other thing is the mold degradation is present for the ROTF/Universe version. It's not as sturdy, causing it to rely heavy on the add-on kit. I think I'll go with the gray add-on kit for ROTF version.

- A Wii Classic Controller
- Project A-Ko 3 (VHS?)
- Mario Kart Wii box
- Nintendo Gamecube
- What appears to be an XBOX 360
- Universe Leo Prime (the recent Target-exclusive version)
- A cellphone?

Actually you got all except one right, the cellphone...more like the home phone. The 360 is under the TV, the big box in the corner is my arcade stick for PS3 to play fighting games.
I'm quite the collector you know. My wife has her Black ROTF Optimus Prime, I have my Snowman kit. I currently own a Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, XBOX 360, Wii and a PS3 (hardware backwards compatible w/PS2)

I think from this perspective possibly leaving the fists white and feet white may be the right way to do it. I'm almost of the opinion to get Energon Superion simply for the initial mold quality and tightness of the figures, since I will be repainting them the original colors don't matter as much.
Its too bad I can get the ROTF one for like 30-40$ and energon seems to be much more.

I had every Energon combiner...and even when they came out some of them were difficult to find. I remember having to wait until the end of the line to finally pick them up. Windrazor and Terradive were the hardest. I finally got them, then sold them becasue I had no money. Now I have the Target set, and I got a Superlink set at the flea market for $45. it had the box but no insert. Yes, there is a difference in quality. The nosecones are more rounded for the raptor jets in the Target set. The paint on Sliverbolt has smudged like they did with Universe Prowl. I was not happy with that, so I keep them in the box.

Not sure if I would buy another of this particular set, but I do give it high marks for what it can accomplish, but I don't think I need another.

FansProject really can turn an average retail toy into something very nice - and I think that this is one reason it would be unwise for Hasbro to try and crack down on them, since FP's products actually increase sales of Hasbro products (excluding Defender which is a stand alone figure).
Now to find a little more room on my shelves.

Unless you can direct me to a pictorial review of the grey crossfire kit with ROTF Superion. All I've seen is Superion Maximus with both kits...

I already have the original appendage set, as was originally not going to get the stocking stuffer version, but I don't know now.
Besides my ROTF/Universe and Energon superions that must stay MISB, i have only purchased a second ROTF set just to unbox for the original appendage set.
I absolutely love the original set, and when I saw this I thought... "man, why couldn't they just do white to begin with?!" Original G1 supieron was mostly white, and I thought when I saw the new "white appendages" that they seemed more appropriate.
It would be cool if the original author could post some pics of this set on the ROTF color scheme. I do not want to go purchase a separate Energon mold, just to open for this appendage set.
Thanks

I'm going to merge this with the above topic, because it is probably of interest to many folks looking in on that thread too.

Looks great with both sets, so I guess I'll go with whichever set I find cheapest! ^^

None that I could see..My box did come with a nice dent on the bottom right hand side and the interior bubble was slightly crushed ( contents secure of course) .. I was looking foward to some sort of "bell or whistle"...

LiKwid wrote:I just fit the appendage kit on my ROTF superion and I still had to take the inner wings of the warthogs off to make it look right ..His legs being so far apart just ruined how the kit made the feet look...
That's why they designed the inner feet to twist in such a way. The way Has/Tak designed Superion Maximus was the problem. We're all using an alternate mode that Hasbro did not think we would use. The feet-apart syndrome is because of the fact they (hasbro) wants us to use one A-10, and one F-22 as legs. To make an F-22 a leg makes it wider than the A-10. In order for him to stand, the legs have to be set wide apart. Even in the Superlink instructions, they use one A-10, and F-22. However, they use parts from Bruticus Maximus on the back of the box reminiscent to Scramble City's switching between Superion and Menasor, except they use parts from Bruticus Maximus.
The weight of the add-on kit's feet is what saves the day. the rudders on the A-10s also keep it from having a slightly closed leg position. I usually turn a leg at an angle to bring them close together, but it looks funky to me. The wide leg pose reminds me of the old Japanese super robot shows where the robots have the same pose at times.
Still, thanks to Peaugh's alternate arm configuration, I will get the gray set for the ROTF version.

Asking $49 with free USA shipping. Saves you a few dollars if you planned to order one anyway.
I'm working on a Carbombya sell thread to clear out some excess before an upcoming move, but figured I'd mention this here in the meantime. Send me a pm if interested.
