Remember those early rumors that were circulating around the internet about Transformers 4, the ones that mentioned the Autobots riding into battle on the Dinobots? Those were dismissed by many, but it appears they might have been spot on! JoeBlo has obtained an image from a recent trade show that depicts exactly that, the new Optimus Prime riding on who we assume must be Grimlock in T-rex mode! Check out the the image mirrored below.

I love your work, Bay, I do, but man think of those of us left to pick up the pieces when you go on a crazy rampage. Mmmkay?
That said... It looks ridiculous.
Ridiculously awesome.

I can't imagine they wouldn't go for the gusto. However, even if they don't, I'm sure Hasbro has plans to make the toys do so. It would certainly help sales, that's for sure.
"Mom, I like dinosaurs. I like Transformers. Why don't they have any that are transforming dinosaurs?"
"Well, Billy, you're in luck. Here's Grimlock."
"Mother, please commence with the emptying of your bank account and gas tank, TO THE HUNTING MOBILE!"
"Or...mommy could just order them all online to save time, patience and money."
"You keep bringing me gold, Mother. Gold."

freaking
AWESOME!!!!!
I was hoping the Dinobots would look more skeletal, however.
That scale, tho. Looks like we're reaching near Demolisher's size, if not bigger. That would be a first for the Autobots in this franchise.

Now I'm kicking myself for not asking him when I saw him at TF-Expo! Course, he'd probably be clueless (back in August), as I'm sure they wouldn't be calling him until late in production, right? Anyway, it's not like he's hard to reach or too busy for a big movie like this, so I really don't see why they wouldn't do it (he's experienced and talented, as it is).

This is the live action films we're talking about. Sadly, you have more of a chance getting struck by lightning than this happening.

Sadly, I'm more likely interested in being struck by lightning than seeing this movie!

I agree. I was going to say that they'll need to tone down the store displays, so as not to scare the kiddies. I'm thinking the ACTUAL movie Grimlock will be a lot more ferocious/scary. But even then, you have to wonder if Hasbro is on Michael Bay's case about that! I can see Bay going full T-Rex and a Hasbro exec telling him it'll scare too many children, so...
yeah, the movie can still be a mess, even with some good ideas! Sometimes when you pull your punches like that, you make for a shorter or less interesting fight.

Funny, those were two of the words I had come to mind but they most certainly weren't together and ABSOLUTELY did not have a positive connotation.
Actually, the picture made me drop an F-bomb and I'm quite convinced the whole thing will suck ass so yeah... same words used, totally different context.

If that doesn't become a memetic definition of awesome, I'd be surprised.
But now that we've seen the Leader Class OP, would it be too much to hope for a Titan Class Grimlock? For scale's sake?
Because you shouldn't have an image like that if you don't want people to eventually want to emulate it in their personal figure displays...

I was thinking the same thing. Not sure if you were at the preview night for the movie showing at TF-Expo this year, but I don't know why I didn't ask him then. I think if Grimlock is in the movie and not voiced by Gregg Berger it would be blasphemous. Plus, he is such a great guy and it makes no sense not to have him voice Grimlock.

Well, Grimlock is a T-Rex, but do not forget that these are Cybertronians. What is likely is that Dinobots will take the route of Prime Predacons - being a prehistoric race that is now extinct. With that said, that scale seems about right when the Cybertronian humanoids are on average 7-10x the size of an Earth human anyway.

So, Bay doing something that everybody's been doing since Animated counts as "finally getting something right," but going the extra mile to get the original Optimus voice back after 20 years, which NO ONE at the time was doing and was made out to be one of the biggest deals of the first movie, does not count as "right"?MINDVVIPE wrote:Sabrblade wrote:What about getting Peter Cullen back to voice Optimus again after ~20 years?MINDVVIPE wrote:Looks wicked. based on the fact that the T-Rex, though it looks awesome, doesnt fit the aestetics of the bay-formers universe...
looks like Transmetal megatron to me

None of the designs we've seen so far fit the typical "bay-former aesthetics." This fourth movie is basically a redesign, altogether.

Wow, you really love bay. Calm down kemosabe, I don't give a shit what anyone else is doing, the fact is bay changes up tons of crap for moronic mainstream film reasons while comprimising on the attempt to evolve the franchise and build more depth (which beast wars, animated, (even masterforce) and the tons of comics did). Peter Cullen's voice was only a big deal to me until I saw the movie and the rest fell flat. As far as I know, "NO ONE" at the time was making a full motion movie about Transformers and probably offering a huge wad of cash to Cullen. Learn to be civil in discussions without trying to make your viewpoint seem like the only logical one.
The very fact that so many people were surprised to see Grimlock as an actual dinosaur just goes to show how much people assume bay is going to change things so drastically to the characters as they exist in the majority of other TF universes.

The guy couldn't tell a good story to save his life. I don't even consider his getting Cullen back all thanks to him, since he originally didn't want Cullen back (he instead wanted to get Liam Neeson to voice Optimus) and had to be convinced to have Cullen audition for the role.
That said, in spite of any mixed feelings anyone has towards Bay, his getting Cullen back was still the main thing that made all of the initial fanrage at all the changes being made for the 2007 film take a sudden shift in another direction. "Ruined FOREVER" switched to "And the Fandom Rejoiced", though as evidenced by discussions on these films that carry on to this day, that didn't change things completely.
With Grimlock, however, we're at a point where if anyone is ever going to use Grimlock in anything these days, chances are he will most undoubtedly be a T-Rex as that is the expectation that comes with using the character. Hasbro has gotten it ingrained into the brand that Grimlock must be a T-Rex if he is to show up in something big and mainstream enough. So, basically no more cases of RiD Grimlock (not that that wasn't still a cool toy, mind you). Keeping him a T-Rex for this movie ought to be the bare minimum, rather than the extra mile.

See, this is all we were really talking about from the start. Glad its come back to the core point. I just happen to disagree with you in the assumption that Bay will follow suit, due to his track record. And my main comment here, from a guy who doesn't like the movies, is that i DO like this Grimlock alt mode design. As for the aesthetic being considered different from the previous movies, I think it still has a very organic, metal-folding-over-metal look, which just happens to work for something that takes its form from something organic already.

To be honest, I would love to hear that Brad Garrett rejected Bay's offer, just like Corey Burton did before. Any instance of Transformers Icons saying that "Bay sucks" is priceless. And after DotM ending, there is no reason to be nice. Reading about Hugo Weaving's experience was for me better fun than watching RotF or DotM. And this time someone finally should start to insult Bay's directly .Because to be honest, so far they are far to soft for him.Sabrblade wrote:I wonder how people would react to hearing them NOT getting Gregg Berger to voice Grimlock, but a celebrity actor instead. Like, imagine if Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone were cast as Grimlock. Or Brad Garrett (who also happened to voice G1 Trypticon).

Anyone with common sense knew Grimlock was going to be a T-Rex. It's iconic to his character. Just like Starscream is a Jet, Optimus is a truck, Ravage is a cat, Laserbeak is a bird, Ratchet is an ambulance, etc. NO ONE was surprised to see that Grimlock was a T-Rex in AoE, they just insist on taking every opportunity to shove their opinions down our throats. I don't know why they do it, it's the 4th movie in the series they should know what to expect by now. If you don't like them fine, quit trying to punish the rest of us for having a different opinion.

Pretty Iconic to me, yet somehow it turned into this in Bay's hands:
I'm not certain of anything when it comes to Bay, except maybe that the movie will suck.

Let's see...
Both are entirely composed of construction vehicles
Both include a crane, dump truck, cement truck, bulldozer, front load shovel, and excavator
Honorable mention: both include Long Haul, Mixmaster, Scrapper, and Scavenger
Looks like you would expect Devastator to be a gestalt composed of construction vehicles because it is iconic to his character. Just like you would expect Grimlock to turn into a T-Rex because it is iconic to his character.
