The big news today was that the elusive Transformers Cyber Series (which are GIANT simpler transforming figures) are now available at a US e-tailer. However, the price of importing them does make them over the Hasbro MSRP so people aren't sure to go all in or not, understandably. So, to help out those on the fence, here is a review of the Optimus Prime (who we also just got some new pics of).

Neonkiwi sent this Bot Toys video review our way. Enjoy!

Woah, using the old cart quantity trick (capped at 24 now, but still), there are 5 Starscreams left. Didn't check the others because I barely have time to even post this, but figured some folks may want a heads up on that.

It's not scamming, it's supply and demand, it's importing, it's all sorts of factors. You're much more likely to get scammed by getting it "off Ebay later".

And plus the demand is there, they are almost sold out of them. They were sold out at robot kingdom before it.

"Scamming" was a poor word choice on my part. I know it's supply and demand. I just don't think BBTS should have had to pay a premium and then pass it on to us. I bet they will be pricey on Ebay later unless demand wanes in the future. Maybe we will see these at TJ Maxx down the line.

I see, did they do the same with the GDO figures? Becasue this is what I associate this release to most.

The transformation of that Cyber Commander Optimus is very similar to the Superme Class Beast Hunters Optimus Prime. Interesting, but only if I could find it live and on sale.

Starscream would be a sure buy, but only if found locally.

What is it with all the new Prime's that they can't add fuel tanks to these huge open areas of the vehicle modes?

So these came in stock at Robot Kingdom earlier this week/late last week (don't remember exactly), and they came in early. Weren't expected until August after being delayed from May. I found that out by cruising through my Twitter feed, where literally tens (ok, probably more like five) of the random Japanese TF fan accounts that I follow, plus their retweets, contained pictures of these in-hand. As these are "GDO" figures, aka probably not intended to ever hit the US, I wondered where they got them from, but immediately checked RK. There they were, except there was only Grimlock (thank goodness!) and the big Bee. Got 'em ordered, and once NYC customs processes it they'll be on their merry way down here to NC.

Then they hit BBTS today. I didn't think anything about it at first. They have a direct Hasbro account and can probably order whatever they want. But then they sold out of some of them really, really quick. Just like RK did.

These can't be in that much of demand, right? If so, Hasbro needs to take note and get their money printers going (aka, these molds) and get them on shelves here pronto. If not, and these are only at this level of popularity due to lack of availability (you know this amplifies demand, it's just how things go and I'm super guilty of this myself so, you know, not knockin' it), then, well, I realized something.

I think BBTS got their stock from RK and is re-selling it at a markup (which, honestly, with international shipping and what they're charging, it'd be a tiny markup, so that's probably the biggest hole in this theory). I ain't mad, and I have no proof of this, but I'm just sayin'.

Doesn't matter really, got 'em all on the way to me and I'm going to have fun, so cheers to that and I'm glad that they weren't a total headache to get!

Since he's grey and a tank I get a bit of a mild WFC/War within vibe from Megatron.

I think Hasbro is being a bit sneaky as most of those have built in repaint potential.

Green or G1 colour Grimlock
Green or Purple Megatron
Perhaps a reverse colour scheme Optimus or Nemesis Prime (and boy would that larger Optimus make one heck of a cool Nemesis Prime)
They might be more tempted to repaint the smaller one as Nemesis Prime and simply reissue the other one with Black legs and some white stripes or something like that.

I think the larger Bumblebee is OK as a stand alone but other wise a little silly The smaller One is Ok - either could be done in black deco.

I think the best looking one is Megatron as he's got reasonable articulation and is just sort of interesting looking.

Starscream isn't to bad but I feel he is lacking because of not having any knees. Lots of repaint potential there obviously.

The smaller Optimus doesn't especially thrill me. I hear the Grimlock has some structural weakness in it that causes it to break unfortunately.

I'd buy the bigger Optimus if I can find one though - I do like that quite a lot.

To accompany yesterday's clip of the Transformers Cyber Commander Optimus Prime figure, we also have a video review by Bot Toys, with unboxing, of its wave-mate Bumblebee. As a reminder, these are the larger figures in the line, and come with very few articulation points and transformation steps, but have a certain appealing aesthetic to some collectors. Check it out below, and let us know what you think in the Energon Pub!

These may not be great, but they aren't bad. At least the design isn't sacrificed for a gimmick that nobody (and I know a few younger kids who like TFs) wants. If these figures were being produces on a legends scale, I'd pick them up. I mean, to be honest, if the review says its worth it, I might order Megatron.

Not only have the figures sold out from BBTS, they've also pulled the category listing. It's like they were never there.

Can you do some comparison shots with a few other Megatrons to get a sense of scale and fit? WFC Deluxe / United Voyager / Generations Leader?

Smaller Bee is way better looking than the big one. Mainly because of the chests. Normal Bee have a very detailed front of a car as a chest that make him look cool. Big bee have the windshield as a chest, which make him look weird and way too blue.

Let's hope that when RID die down, Hasbro will bring that line for the rest of the world to fill the "simple TF" lines on the shelves.

With just barely a few dozens of views for each videos, Chuck is no competition for anyone... Kinda unfair to say, but at least, Chuck is reviewing things that the big titant reviewers (such a Optiboptimus, Paugh, or Emgo) will not bother with. Sure, unpopular things like Movie 1 step figures or Hello Kitty TFs don't bring the masses, but at least, the video is being done. And It's nice to see some underdogs in motion.

It's normal for the odd stuff that we cant find anywhaere. That's his strenght. However, for the things that the big Ones have reviewed, most people don't bother.

If he's the first on the block to review something, he may get a few thousands thanks to a Seibertron feature. But no more once the Big Titant Reviewers get on the game. It's hard to compete with their hundreds of thousands of subscribers.

That why, Chuck, I encourage you to keep reviewing the most bizzare and out of the left feild TF ever and/or, the ones that many reviewers will not bother with. Like the giant-ass 60$ 1 step RID Bumblebee. Power Battler AOE Optimus have proven it.

This one may only interest me, but just wanted to show that while the "small" Bee from this line shares engineering with the upscaled BH Cyberverse Deluxe, they are definitely not the same mold retooled or further upscaled:

Scotty P has some fun stuff for us. The elusive Generations Cyber series, of simplified voyager and leader sized Transformers toys featuring G1 characters, has shipped from Robot Kingdom (and has dissapeared from BBTS listings, curiouser and curiouser) and Sctotty P got his hands on them. He has provided us some pictures to show the scale as well as a list of all the articulation found on the figures. Enjoy!

Going through some of my old boxes, I saw I had kept the original boxes/packaging for the G1 combaticons and Rumble/Frenzy. Just look at them prices... Those were 80s Deluxes and Voyager. Sure they're bigger now, but I don't know if it merits doubling the prices...

If you are talking prices have you considered inflation and comparison to the increase in other toy lines? I remeber the marvel legends line being 10$ when it started. It doubled in only 10-15 years time. That is a much faster acceleration than the TF price increase.

Actually, f&%k it: Here's an inflation calculator, the increase in toy prices is a myth:

http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/

TFs havent increased in significant value in 30 years and have gotten bigger. We have only gained in terms of what money can let us buy in terms of TFs.

What you are really asking is: would you be ok going back to paying these prices and having your salary reduced by half? That is the only logical way to approach your line of thinking.

You have to be fair in your comparisons, guys. If you are comparing your pay when you were a kid buying TFs, you should compare it to someone who is that old today buying tfs. To make it easy, I assumed it as parents buying TFs for their kids then and parents buying it for their kids now. Do you make as much, less or more now than your parents made back then? That is the only fair way to compare when dealing with inflation.

How much was a trio at mcdonalds back in the 80s? How much is it now?

A lot of those hanger cards were under $5.00 that seems like the sort of amount a kid could realistically get their hands on in the 1980's via pocket money or gifts.

The current prices of Deluxes up to $16.99 seems like a price further away from an easily scroungable amount.

I do personally think it was a mistake for things like 1-Steps to be sold over $10.00 that is an important psychological price limit.

It might be argued the "Toy car" size of a legion being over $5.00 has also passed a psychological price limit too.

I like Cyberseries and I appreciate the size but the only one I get less of a sense of 'Owch' at the price is Optimus.

But I guess we need to wait and see as regards the eventual US Retail Prices (if they ever show up).

I do worry they are a bit like all that South American Max Steel & Action Man - something just for South America... heck they might even be cheaper if they were out in some more places in Asia too though.

The import pricing on them would encourage me to be selective - I do like them more than the RID 3 step changers though.

They are an amusing curiosity if nothing else.

And I disagree... the old combiner limbs were equivalent of Scout sized, with the Autobot Cars being more of the Deluxe equivalent priced at least half again that price.
