Its still tricky because thats the only one where Hasbro has no interest in bringing the mold over to complete a G2 set. They really beleive their Blast Off to be as good a Blast Off as your gonna get:

I still have no issues with blast off being a jet. He looks good to me.
By the did you already do a top combiners editorial? I can't remember

I dont think Blast Off being a jet is bad at all, especially when combienr wars is a G1 redux. But the G2 sets are clearly about using the molds which best represent the G2 toys so having Blastoff be a jet there just makes him a redeco of the normal retail G1 redux version, which is different from every other G2 set. So it kind of breaks the theme.
And no I didnt do a top combiner list yet, thanks for the interest . I do have a top 5 best G1 combiners in the pipeline, which talks about both Hasbro and Takara. I dont know if I should doanother list as top 5 combiner wars combiners or simply best combiners post G1. Its a bit tough. All of these combiner Wars combiners beat FOC Bruticus (right?), do they beat every other combiner too? Like Landfall? Would BW Tripedicus be the only non CW/UW combiner on this post G1 list? The fact that CW/UW isnt over makes it hard for me to figure it out.
Hence why I found it easier to stick to G1 for this first combiner list.
PS: My questions arent rhetorical, if anyone wants to answer them, please do

I think a best re-shell list would be interesting, but good combiners have been hard to come by. Would you include Unicron trilogy combiners in that list if they ranked high enough?

Oh there's plenty of good combiners that are not G1. The original RID had some good ones, beast wars, even animated has a decent one(whatever that jetfire/jet storm dudes name was)

This is an odd situation. I am inclined to agree with Nem here, but the Golden Rule of Seibertron is to not take Nemesis Maximo seriously. What should I do?
Anyway, as soon as Groove shows up on BBTS, I'm preordering that sucker, whether my parents let me or not. I don't want another Quickslinger situation.

An obvious thought, I know, but perhaps a list of worst/least liked combiners might work as a nice juxtaposition. Or even just combiner methods that while admirable didn't hold up (PCC, powerlinxing, FOC plug ports, etc.)?

The only one I remember from RID that wasn't a G1 redeco was OP and UM (which I loved when I had it before I sold him over 10 years ago). Beast wars was pretty much Tripedicus and the maximal one, right? I never got the animated one because I wasn't collecting at the time, but I've not heard great things about it. Which always begs the question, do you include just two robots in a combiner or do you need more of a team?

The Trainbots were original as were the autobot combiner that were construction vehicles

RID also had Team Bullet Train forming Rail Racer, similar to Magnaboss and Tripredacus from BW.
If we include 2 member combiners, then technically all of the Energon Autobots apply (though they weren't very good at it).

Agreed!
I still have an Energon Hotshot and Rodimus shirt/pants combo displayed with my classics! Most of the combinations look pretty ropey now but, by some fluke of complementary proportions, this one has held up surprisingly well.

Energon in general is still a good toy line. The fiction is by far the lowest point in transformers when it comes to cartoons but plastic crack is still pretty great.

That train is cool, I was glad to finally get him, though the fact that they accomplish to have 3 bullet trains actually turn into individual robots which in turn can combine into a bigger robot is better than the actual end result. One of the parts ends up beign a back pack, just like those samurai combiners from Transformers Go!
And to those asking, I wouldnt count 2 part combiners in a list. There are so many, I might as well just do a list of 2 part combiners. But they come up in other lists anyway already, like best Optimus Super Modes, which is all about him teaming up with other bots.
I will show you what my dilemma is when we look beyond G1. As you may have noticed, I really like when a list goes through a buch of different eras and designs (which even the G1 combiner list does) and that is still honest and true. It shows how certain toys still hold up. But if we look at combiners, they are all evaluated on that combining technology. If a combiner technology is better than the rest, then why not include all combiners that use it or exclude all those that dont.
For instance, think of the best version of Superion and Devastator since G1. Are both from the same line? If so, then whats the use of naming other more subpar combiners? Thats what I am struggling with.
In the end, I feel it will be easier to eventually dolists of top 5 toys in a specific line and we can then see where the combiners end up within (hint hint, the energon combiner teams are not top 5 in the Energon line and movie Devastator is not top 5 in best toys from ROTF).
Thanks for helping me out guys, it means a lot.

I do see your point. By the evolving nature of the brand, the methods of combining are (generally) always improving to add more versatility and flexibility. Plus they keep upping their game in terms of size and how many can go into bigger bots while being stable, so by definition the best combiners are the latest editions.
Nostalgia and fondness for the old toys aside, it would be laughable to put G1 Devastator on the same list as CW Superior, save for it a pity mention of it's "important place" in the legacy.

It may cost just as much, ultimately, from them, since they still have to import it from Taiwan and that's factored into the store cost, but I prefer them.
Also Robot Kingdom is pre-sold out now, so my hands are tied.

I agree. People claimed to have seen breakneck and quickslinger but there's never been proof of them being in the wild not to mention it's one figure and I don't think they'll do a retail for one figure. Cases are like 10 or 12 units?
If anywhere maybe toysrus but toysrus has been pretty bad latley. I have 2 in my city and man have they been behind on current stuff. Neither even have tags for G2 Superion. 2 years ago you could walk in any day and get MP-10 when it was released

I think there's a probable scenario for seeing them in the wild. Someone ordered them online, decided they didn't want them, but instead of shipping them, they returned them to the local store, and the local store put them on the shelf rather than sending them back to the district center.

I have two Toys R Us' near me too and the ones Transformers section has been getting smaller and smaller first with Jurassic World and then they moved the Power Rangers stuff next to it after moving the Marvel stuff for Star Wars. International packaging, what's why (it even said so in the news post). Those never got comics, only a collector's card.
And all I can say is... ugh. Of course he's announced after the Protectobots and Autobot Cars have disappeared from the pegs. If lucky I can only get Hot Spot and Minigroove.
HTS still has everyone but Rook and Hotspot available, plus free Shipping and 20% off for over $50.

Isn't much better here in Huntington, WV . I have a Walmart, a Target, and a TRU close to me (and a few more of each a distance away), and the last time I saw something new was the Combaticons at TRU, who then disappeared and never returned, leaving only Wave 4 Deluxes, Armada Megatrons, and Skywarps.

Because you arent looking at a US edition, but an international edition of the packaging. International versions must be of several languages and cant have a comic that is only in english. Compare this and the packaging of quickslinger and breakneck and you will see that they only had english on their boxes.
And Jelze, GO ON HTS NOW, they have all that you are looking for at the best price possible!
Oh and here are scenes from TRUs in Canada
