Bulkhead is out in France, so French reviewer TFToybox got a nice first crack at the toy. Below are some fun images he took which show Bulkhead's compatibility with minicons and fossilisers. We also see the very first shot of Bulkhead in truck mode without the tarp. You can check out the full review below. I tend to end news sightings like this saying when this toy should be coming to America, but at this point it can be anytime between tomorrow and June. We know these toys are ready for distribution, we'll see when they come to American shores.

We can agree to disagree. I found many aspects of the second part even more offensive than the first. The makers of WFC seemed to at least have genuinely wanted to tell a good story, but we're limited by Hasbro in budget, which only allowed for limited acting and writing talent, as well as animation. MOTU Revelation was a much bigger budget, and KS used it to smear feces on everything that was MOTU.

WFC isn't great by any means, but I don't have a visceral reaction to it, as I do for MOTU R, which is sad. MOTU 2002 is still the best and I'm glad I can go back and watch it whenever I want.

Japan did make their own G2 (which they called "G-2") future of the cartoon, told in manga and story page form.

We also got a comic version of G2 set after The Rebirth in the Wings Universe, which led into a 2-part Machine Wars-themed "finale" of sorts that in turn set things up for the Beast Era.

And as for the original Beast Era timeline from back in the day, the complete timeline of everything from the very end of the Great War all the way up to when Megatron stole the Golden Disk (and much more) can be found and read here (recently written and completed by yours truly).

That's the best attitude to have.

I honestly think this looks really good, but I still gotta agree it's a lot more jock- and chad-like than the original Prime Bulkhead. The truck mode does look very beefy and military like Animated Bulkhead so I'm pretty sold already on the alt mode alone - as in, I'm gonna see what retools are planned - because the robot mode ain't bad in my opinion. Just doesn't super feel like Bulkhead. Movie Hound is something I can def see being an easy option considering the "worlds collide" theme of Legacy, but I'm hoping for something Decepticon-y >:)

Unrelated but while a Scourge or Toxitron retool/redeco of Laser OP is far more logical, is it wrong that I can also see a potential Clench/Colossus retool if they made the semi truck chunks face forward instead of up? Along with the obvious head and maybe even a chest retooling!

MOTU 2002 was a great remake, but MOTU Revelations was a spectacular sequel to the original series, which is what it was billed as.

The Netflix WFC series was so bad that I was embarrassed to watch Earthrise in front of my wife. It had good moments, but there were problems there unrelated to the budget.

I quite liked Revelation too. It's certainly better than the insipid drivel fanfiction "Toyguru" wrote for the MOTU: Classics line. 200X was the best, though, I'll agree.

I think MOTU: Revelation suffers the same fate as recent franchise revivals, like The Last Jedi, where the critics love it, but a very vocal portion of the fanbase hate it.

The Netflix War for Cybertron series was better than a LOT of Transformers media, but nowhere near the best. It's middling, but was a breath of fresh air after the Prime Wars Trilogy failed to fill the gap of good Transformers storytelling after Transformers Prime wrapped up.

I remember the same visceral hate toward the Star Wars Prequels trilogy. Now, two decades later they are remembered with fondness and nostalgia. Maybe it will be the same for MOTU Revelations and the Star Wars Sequels trilogy in 20 years. :-?

BTW, that Bulkhead ain't that bad. But I'll be sure to not buy it at Canadian Toys R Us because he'll be most likely 60$CAN by the time he'll comes out. NO, REALLY. I'll preorder it at Amazon.ca.

I have to disagree. ReGeneration One kept more of the details of the original series, as well as picked up the story from the end of Marvel issue #80.

G2 pretty much ignored what happened in G1 but if you want to get the proper start, you have to read the 4-issue crossover with G.I. Joe that explains why Megatron is now a green tank.

As for Jhiaxus himself, his G2 version was much, much better and entertaining. He was more vicious and uninhibited in G2, whereas in ReGeneration One he was just another villain, easily dispatched after a few issues. He pretty much drove the story in G2, and everything the other Transformers did was a reaction to his actions.

And he completely wiped San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland off the face of the planet with 1 shot from his spaceship, just to show Prime he wasn't fucking around.

LOL this is becoming a motu thread it seems. I liked revelations. first season more then the second imho. 200x and the new cgi show are vastly superior shows though. The thing about motu-r is that it lines up with what the four horsemen originally pitched for what they wanted the 200x to be. some changes sure, like the whole death and coming back thing, and man-at-arms didn't build him a replacement power sword.

now onto bulkhead. While I stand by my stance that this toy feels wrong for bulkhead (ball not box!) the in hand pics do look a lot better then the promo images. I think though, like some others have said, that I will probably wait to see what the inevitable repaint/remold will be instead of picking up this guy.

I guess we have to on this one. Masters of the Universe Revelation wasn't the best thing ever, but I don't feel like it was the worst thing ever. I suppose this might be because MOTU wasn't my favorite thing as a kid, nor was it my least favorite thing. It's (beside the first two years, cuz I'm that old) always been =/=. Like everything else from the 80s, I know more about it than the average cat, but I don't see where he 'smeared feces' on it - for one thing, a lot of the concepts used came much later (some in the 2000s). Others were a spin on something old or not very much tread, which yes - maybe that's subject to some scrutiny in how it was used, but it's all just a new telling that kind of references the old show.

To me, it's like everything else - It can't stay the same, and it can't belong to us (from the OG days) forever, because we're getting older and they want to keep selling stuff, so anything that keeps it going is good - even if you or I don't love the direction. It's better than the alternative.

Age frame might matter. I was literally watching He-Man the day I was born, and it was an enormous part of my early childhood from there on. I didn't have the full room of MOTU toys because it was split with Starcom and M.A.S.K., but I had a fair bit (including She-ra figures inherited from my sister) and a slew of those children's books. I even dug one out for a drama class assignment in high school.

By comparison, I had relatively few Transformers as a child because they were really hard to get (until micromasters showed up), and the only way to watch the cartoon (until G2) was renting tapes from the grocery store.

Now, back to Bulkhead...

I'm really happy about the following things:

- He's out, legally, in France and someone else, other than the usual pack of tealeaves, has gotten a video out first. I think I'll even subscribe to them.

- He doesn't seem as bad as I thought he would be when I saw the original pics of him.

- Minicon ports! I love them, but why? Are they really for an upcoming Unicron trilogy remold? I heard something about Energon Optimus Prime, or something?

I didn't write "right where it left off." ReGeneration One picked up the story from the end of the Marvel run where the failed leader known as Optimus Prime made yet another disastrous decision to return to Cybertron while leaving a lot of deactivated Transformers and Cybertronian technology behind, allowing Megatron to yet again wreak havoc on Earth.

Thanks, and makes sense for where PvP is located. I'd never heard it before. I work for a global company with customers all over the world, so I definitely like to be aware of slang terms so I can make sure to avoid getting myself into a mess.

It's not that weird. 'Minicon pegs' have appeared off-and on for years. I imagine 5mm pegs with holes often work better than 5mm pegs without, because they can deform slightly, making for a secure grip that's not likely to fail. Minicons with the correspondingly shaped plugs are far rarer, probably because their compatibility is very, very limited. WFC micromasters are minicons in all respects, save for the lack of that very specific type of plug.

Edit- by way of example, I just picked up my SG Jetfire and counted; at least four of the 5mm pegs have the Unicron Trilogy holes in them. Two of the handles underneath and the pegs on two of the laser accessories.

Also,

The holes in the pegs allow Armada/Energon/Cybertron Minicons and Energon weapons to attach, where otherwise they would be unable. That's about it.

[Referring to post-UT toys with the pegs.]

Historically, some minicon pegs on larger figures had a spring loaded feature in the center that was activated when the minicon was attached. As an example, Cybertron Unicron's chest missile is launched when you plug a minicon onto the peg on his back. The larger figures would have multiple minicon posts, but only 1 or 2 would activate a feature on most figures.

I'm guessing zero functional value on Bulkhead.

While it's not a figure I'm going to purchase (for now), Bulkhead does look pretty fun. Doing new and old characters in different styles is something I love to see, mixes things up and was one of the best parts of Generations/Thrilling 30 before the two previous trilogies started up

The Land Military team would match the alternate mode's theme, /and/ give him firing missiles mounted all over. The colors would largely be in the right palette too.

The minicon that turns into a stealthbomber could also be good, as it had that fun spinning shuriken weapon mode. Not really aesthetically appropriate for Bulkhead though.

So I'm probably alone on this, but I'd actually like to see the rumored TFPrime Optimus retool of Bulkhead repainted as Toxitron with maybe an adaptor to add the tanker from G2 Prime. That's my ideal that probably isn't shared by anyone else.

So I'm probably alone on this, but I'd actually like to see the rumored TFPrime Optimus retool of Bulkhead repainted as Toxitron with maybe an adaptor to add the tanker from G2 Prime. That's my ideal that probably isn't shared by anyone else.

I rather like that idea actually, and it'd separate him a bit from the thousands of EVIL Optimus Primes we already have. I wouldn't say no to a more "traditional" Toxitron either though.

Slightly off topic but I would like to see more fiction for Toxitron. Whilst I'm not the biggest fan of the whole 13 Primes thing, if you were to use him I kinda like the idea that Alchemist Prime ends up becoming Toxitron instead of Maccadam. Alternatively, have him as one of a batch of evil Optimus Prime clones lead by Nemesis Prime.

Only because of the limitations that Fun Pub had to work with at the time in each case.

I think that would probably be awesome...
I don't always like slightly weird color schemes, but that one works imo.

I love the idea of a Leader Toxitron made with a remolded Bulkhead and the Lazer Prime tanker. The tanker should have some remolding too, to make it more "toxic". Also, give him an unique headsculpt like maybe the good ol' "Optimus" head, but with a gaping and fangy maw instead of the ordinary face-plate.

That brings to mind a question - how likely is a Shattered Glass Ultra Magnus from Laser Prime this year? I could imagine a parallel to the first Pulse SG set where they release the Leader Class cab without the trailer. (For that matter, I guess we got Nemesis Prime about that same time with a trailer that his forebearer did not have, so that is evidence that Hasbro is willing to shuffle those trailer accessories around.)

I have been trying to limit my investment on any one mold so I'm looking at a real conflict here, because it looks probable this mold will get not just a lot of use, but a lot of desirable uses.

Legacy Laser Prime. G2 Laser Prime was one of my favorite childhood toys, and so far I've grabbed all the G2-inspired figures, but do I need another Optimus Prime? And does nostalgia even matter when you still have the original? The one your wife sat down at a table in the dorms on a snowy winter day and repainted for you 19 years ago? (And also the super-posable Generations version and the Titans Return version.)

Walmart Velocitron Scourge (Almost certainly going to be on shelves this year). I've already got the Siege mold as Nemesis Prime, but Nemesis Prime and Scourge aren't the same character, and the colors were literally made for that design.

Shattered Glass Ultra Magnus (Probably going to be online this year). I was really hoping for a recolor of the Siege Mold, because then I would have had an excuse to unload my Siege Magnus, buy an Earthrise Magnus, and still have one version of each mold. It seems almost certain, though, that they would use the Legacy Laser Prime mold though. I'll definitely get a SG Ultra Magnus regardless of the mold used, so that makes Scourge and Optimus doubly redundant.

Selects Toxitron (PLAUSIBLY going to happen, next year if not this year). I have no attachment to the character, but the novelty compels me. If they were to use the Bulkhead mold, I'd probably buy it on sight, since I doubt I will get Bulkhead. Otherwise, this will be a very hard choice to make.

All about asking questions lately. But given the "Legacy" moniker, what are the odds of their appearance in the line?

Optimus Prime is always a possibility, because he's Optimus Prime. Gigatron not really. He'd have to be a tiny commander class to have eleven modes and an intricate paintjob, these days. Everyone would complain and whine he's too expensive, look at what happened with Rodimus. Skybite is farfetched, but possible, they've done him once and they could repaint him as Cybershark. Everyone else from the Robots In Disguise / Car Robots cast who isn't a repaint, I very much doubt we'll ever see.

Admittedly I am sceptical myself. They didn't give a damn for the 20th anniversary of Car Robots or RiD, so it is doubtful they consider this series a part of the Transformers legacy anymore.

I think it's not so much that they don't consider it part of the legacy, but rather that it was a one-year thing with VERY expensive unique gimmicks and models to reproduce. So it'd be costly to make, and would have a very small fan base, so very little return.

The good thing is that a bunch of the cast was repaints. So rest assured you'll get those soon after getting the main models, as it was the case with Ruination and it's going to be the case with Scourge.
