head sculpt,
female like round thighs,
wheels? (maybe for placement only)
new forearms? New smaller hands? but it maybe just the angle...
Me like big time! Although part of me is sad the first MP fembot is not Arcee...

I had no interest in Exhaust and I have no interest in this either.
Masterpiece had a good run going with so many classic characters. I mean I didn't really want Star Saber but that's just because I didn't watch much if any of the Japanese G1 stuff. It was still at least a unique new mold and I applaud them for making it as an homage to that series.
But this? Exhaust as a one-off I can see but this is just lazy now. And don't think its just the G1 fan-boy in me either. I have the same feelings about Goldbug, the retool of Bumblebee. It was neat I guess but I have no desire to get one.
Let's see some new molds!

As it happens, the redecos, which many of us LOVE, fund the new molds.
Also, where have you been? Redecos have been the (enjoyable) MP reality for years, and just now you're getting sick of them?

1) I really don't care if you love it or not. My statement was expressing my opinion that I don't like them. If you do, great, still doesn't have anything to do with my statement.
2)Saying they fund the new molds is a redundant statement since there is still going to be the production costs to pump out the retools as well as the modifications to make it a retool. In other words, ANY masterpiece will net profit and thus fund more molds.
3) I've been right here on planet Earth. Yeah redecos have been part of the masterpiece line since the get-go but that's simply because of the nature of the G1 transformers series. The seekers were all pretty much cloned recolours so this is why Starscream through Sunstorm are all gonna have the same mold but recoloured. These are retools of existing characters into ones that barely exist. Okay the statement could be made that any character deserves its time in the sun and yeah that's great and all but when so many have gone unused and the masterpiece line before this seemed to be about taking classic toys from our childhood and updating them to make them appeal to collectors this seems to be getting away from that mission.

Good lord, now I'll have that in my head all day, thanks a lot. That being said, if the MP line made a redeco of any character wearing a raspberry beret, I'd buy that as well

I'm not sure about that. The way they've been clustering the MP car redecos, with roughly 4 total per mold within 18 months of original release, makes me think that they plan these things fairly far ahead.
The tiny marginal cost and effort associated with minor MP retools, and the resulting profits, helps make the MP line a winner in Takara's portfolio, worthy of additional investment. When each redeco offsets the huge engineering costs and from a planning perspective gives Takara the wherewithal to engineer new figures, I would say no, my statement was not redundant. I think you're looking at the micro rather than the macro.
Wheeljack808 wrote:3) I've been right here on planet Earth. Yeah redecos have been part of the masterpiece line since the get-go but that's simply because of the nature of the G1 transformers series.
Which the Masterpiece line is homaging... so again, the complaint doesn't make a huge amount of sense.

I disagree - figures like Sunstorm, Exhaust, Tigertrack, etc., and now Road Rage, reference TFs or pre-TFs, are all updates to 80s toys in exactly the manner you describe.

Actually, the logic behind Road Rage is about the same as Exhaust - they're both Diaclone decos of the new mold. Road Rage happens to have the added advantage of having been added to the G1 'family' in 2002 by Ehobby, so its hardly like a character thats been suddenly dropped on us, but nor is it a character we've been saturated with.
I think its neat and maybe if a fembot sells suitably well enough, then Takara might even consider an Arcee in the future

Agreed. Seeing how there's a precedent with Robot Masters, a black Star Saber may also be in the works. Who knows? Like you, I will sit back and enjoy the ride, because I like where it's going

And in response to Wheeljack808 and anyone else who is upset that this isn't the 20-somethingth version of Jazz:
Repaints don't interrupt new molds from getting made.
Repaints don't interrupt new molds from getting made.
REPAINTS DON'T INTERRUPT NEW MOLDS FROM GETTING MADE.
It's not like Takara are saying "Hey, we want to produce a Sunstreaker but Road Rage is taking up too much of our damn time." Instead, the additional income provided by re-engineering or repaints helps finance and financially justify new molds being made.
Repaints help finance new molds
Repaints help finance new molds
REPAINTS HELP FINANCE NEW MOLDS
And the argument that these are getting lazy is ridiculous. Every repaint since the Datsuns is a big improvement over the days when Ultra Magnus carried around a brown Megatron and the seekers escorted the Amazing Arkeville Triplets. Nowadays the likes of Smokescreen, G2 Bumblebee (not Goldbug, get your facts straight), Exhaust and now Road Rage make use of new parts to add value to the purchase.
Must have purchase. A+

I agree with 95% of what you said. I'm going to get this, as I have with all MPs, and I'm going to continue to love this line and be an ardent supporter of it. But can we please get past the 'female' thing? Robots are asexual, and until someone can show me Optimus Prime's jock I will continue to stand by that. Sure - why not? Road Rage shares 90% of her body type with Tracks and I was readily accepting the G1 toy was female, too, and that had a mouth plate.
Roulette and Shadow Striker only had a head difference from Sideburn. Worked for me. Might've worked without it, too.

My point is that if they are aliens, I think we can all agree to that, then why limit the term alien by subjecting it to male and female terms? Why should they be subject to sexual characteristics when they do not reproduce sexually? Ok, Arcee is pink. Is she therefore somehow weaker than Hot Rod? Not at all, check the movie, she defends him, not the other way around.

Welcome to the 21st century. It turns out that sex is not the same thing as gender. There are people out there who identify as female who have, as you put it, "jocks" or who at least had "jocks" at one stage in their life.
I'm gonna get out of this habit soon but:
Sex is not the same thing as gender
Sex is not the same thing as gender
SEX IS NOT THE SAME THING AS GENDER
I'm not about to go around saying that a fictional robot repaint has her own gender autonomy or anything, but I will say that each Transformer out there HAS A GENDER EVEN IF THEY DON'T HAVE A SEX.

It's not a question of if they need it or not. They identify that way. They call each other "he" or "him". There is a group in the very earliest cartoon called the "Female Autobots". Every piece of evidence indicates they possess male and female genders. I appreciate your theory that aliens might have different genders or no use for genders but until Wheelie turns to Daniel and says "Actually we Cybertronians have 8 genders, my pronouns are "phe" and "phim"" it's just a theory.
To recap, Transformers refer to each other as male and female and use gendered pronouns. They have genders, whether you think they should or not.

.
Yes and know. Let's throw out an extimate that the retool cost is 20% of the original production cost for a new head, a new gun, and a new accesory (since we're not getting Raoul?)
A new poroduct(s) comes out, it has to pay for
[*]The initial Tooling Cost
[*]It's own Material Costs
[*]Shipping, Packaging, yadda yadda yadda.
Usually, the tooling is paid for by the first figure or figures depending on run size. So being conservative with numbers, let's say Tracks paid off 80% of the original investment in the mold, and Takara expects (reasonably, given run sizes--See below*) for Road Rage to pay off the remaining 20% of the INITIAL mold, plus the 20% for her new head, gun, and accesories. Assuming she doesn't qite sell as many as Tracks, becauce she is a more diehard fan type figure, let's assume that the gross eraning for Road Rage gives the Tooling Cost budget 60%, an extra 20% of tooling costs that can be flipped to the next figure.
Said next figure's entire tooling cost is concievably already down to 80-85% if it's more complex than Tracks/Rage was or Road Rage doesn't sell as many numbers. That figure then only has to split 80% across the initial, and the repaint. And if there's two repaints, then you have essentially two figures that pay the mold off completely, as above, and another figure who pays for his own materials, accesories, and supporting infrastructure costs, but since he's not paying for the initial tooling cost,
he can bring in 60% like RoadRage did, minus the 20% for his "toys", =40% investment in the figure after HIM.
*And before anyone says it:
"If a figure cannot pay for it's initial tooling, it's a failure. Businesses call that a loss."
Yes, and no. Often times, these Toolings are investments that are expected to pay back slowly. IE, two figures. Or three figures. Hasbro and Takara fully expect a tooling to NOT be paid for by one figure alone. The price of these things are simply too haigh, when you figure on a 10 12 14 16 dollar figure. That's why we get the Pre-tools.
And with COmbiner Wars, I expect the re-skinning of frames is more a matter of simplicity than mold cost recuoperation. Why reinvent the wheel?

I guess you've never seen American Psycho. Anyway, on a separate note, since there obviously will be no Raoul with this release, and Road Rage is Crosscut's bodyguard, who negotiates space for Metroplex on Earth, could we maybe get a small holographic Metroplex?
