This makes Transformers the 4th best opening day of this year and the best opening Tuesday ever. Even Pireates of the Caribbean: Dead Men's Chest trailed had only $15.7 million last year.

I agree but for there to be sequels there are still alot of people out there that dont know that much about transformers

Nemesis Cyberplex wrote:& the funny part about those numbers is that Transformers cost about half as much to make as those movies that had bigger openings than it did.
So true... And I think that Transformers will easily overtake Spidey 1 and Pirates 1 in biggest weekend. Which will result (IMO) in even bigger records for the sequels.
Of course the sequels will get more expensive as well...

Why bother having a great character like Starscream if he's only going to get like one line and shoot some guys down? Better off just to make him Skywarp
Posted by primalVICTORY on July 4th, 2007 @ 9:26am CDT
as for that money thing. well, that seems pretty damn good for just its second day.
Posted by Skowl on July 4th, 2007 @ 11:04am CDT
it would be a dream come true to have it beat Titanic... I know it won't (mainly because the over 50 crowd won't go see Transformers), but I can dream...

I agree completely. How to get the kiddies hooked on a wickedly awsome character like Starscream if they can't get a full idea of who Starscream is? There just wasn't enough time for the major 'cons, having them plunked into the action at the end like that.
That said--nice to hear the film is getting great in-theater support! Much as I hate paying eight bucks to see movies, I admit this was absolutely worth it.

However, with a Monday opening, would all this be counted as opening weekend gross? I know they can get away by opening a day or two early, but this is nearly a full weak.
I'd like to see how it turns out, plus I know I have alot of groups of friends that each want to see it again with me as a walk through, and believe me when I tell you before this film they couldn't care less about TFs, but this film has alot of people from all walks excited, and thats a great thing!

Weekend gross only includes what was earned on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The days before will become part of it's cumulative gross for the opening week.

I'm confused.
Either way, 38 mil for 1 and a half days isn't bad, still, I'd hoped this movie would be tops for the year. It's certainly ambitious enough, and IMO good enough.

But once the exitment and the new "smell" (for lack of a better metaphor) wears off and people settle down, I'm willing to predict one of the biggest drop off's we've ever seen at the theatre. Especially with Harry Potter being so popular and comming out Wednesday.
The bottom line is once the newness wears off, so will the excitment and people will start to reflect more clearly on what it is.

Hot_Rod wrote:My feeling on this is that is a typical fan reaction. Our fan base has a long hystery at getting all excited with knee jerk reaction the instant something new comes out or is announced. This is no different, and with as large of a fan base that Transformers has, I expected the totals to do well the first several days.

Do I expect it to make more than it was originally thought? Oh yes.
This is a classic example of a summer, fun blockbuster.
This is why it works and will make back what it cost and then some.
I watched one Harry Potter movie, deepness and whatnot, and it friggin' bored me 'til I fell asleep. I tried another one and couldn't even make it past the first 30 minutes, I fell asleep.
Deep's great and all, but sometimes it just isn't necessary. Can't people just have fun for once? Damn.

Transformers will have staying power... There is nothign wrong with not having to think deep to watch a movie and just sit back and enjoy the show.. thats what movies are for... i still think it is going to come close to spiderman or pirates if not beating one of them.. maybe i am a optimist.. ohh welll.....
