Well, thanks to Cybertron Philippines we now know that it is he following:
Wreck-Gar as a redeco of Reveal the Shield Wreck-Gar
Autobot Hot Rod (NOT "Rodimus") as a redeco of Classics Rodimus
Junkion Scrapheap as a redeco of e-HOBBY United Scrapheap
About Rodimus, it should be noted that he is called Hot Rod again. Lastly, be sure to check out the new 30th Movie Anniversary logo found on the box pictured below. This is the first time we have seen this logo being used and it would hint that it will be used on other sets and toys throughout the year.
Let us know what you think in the discussion!
Fellow Seibertronian Sabreblade helped us by jotting down the writing found on the box:
PLANET OF JUNK CLASH
WRECK-GAR and the Junkions aren't easy to understand - they speak in scattered phrases learned from Earth TV signals - but they're fiercely protective of their planet and the scrap piles that cover it. When the Autobots arrive, the Junkions come out weapons swinging. Before things get ugly, AUTOBOT HOT ROD ends the battle not with a bang, but with a bah-weep-granah weep ni ni bong.
The text is too blurry to tell what that word is, but it looks like "snoopy" or "speedy".WRECK-GAR
The Junkion leader wants to make sure the (something) AUTOBOT visitors get mud in their eye, by-and-by. Film at 11:00.
AUTOBOT HOT ROD
Uses the TRANSFORMERS' universal greeting and instantly turns the Junkions from enemies to allies.
JUNKION SCRAPHEAP
When your leader speaks only in phrases learned from Earth TV, the battle plan may sound a bit unusual.

It's too bad it didn't redeco the old Universe Hound mould as Detrius, I'd have bought it then.
Posted by Cobotron on January 18th, 2016 @ 12:38pm CST
Also slightly tempting from an Army Building perspective.
Decos look nice, but do Rod's yellow legs look a tad funky?
Gotta wonder if anything was done about the handle bar issue on the moto-cicles.

Not the greatest set overall. and yes it is a missed oppurtunity to make the long desired Detritus from Classics Hound... so that is a repaint that the 3rd parties will likely beat Hasbro too using their own MP style Hound moulds.
--------
Oh and regarding the earlier points I have no objection what so ever with Generation One Mould being used to make "New" Generation One Characters like Road Rage or Crosscut.
I would say however that such reissues (when a new Character) have more right to claim to be G1 toys even if they are released decades later than any toy that specifically resembles a current comic does - and even Botcon toys do simply as it's a matter of style & context.
But context is Important as I would for example offer the distinction of saying Masterpiece Prowl represents and Original Transformers Character (or G1 Character if you prefer) - bit that does not make him a G1 toy - but as I say I have no objection what so over saying Road rage is Generation One any more than I wouldn't have an objection to a 1990's European Copper box reissue being G1 also.
I would however offer the same kind of specific distinction between Character and Toyline to a whole host of other product like Q-Robo, Alternity, Binaltech/Alternators and so on.
I would also totally count Japanese G1 as an acceptable thing to Call Generation One even if it's not the same continuity as Western Transformers exactly because of context again. However I would be careful with my terminology when describing IDW Comics as that is so unlike the original Universe in so many ways that frankly it sort of "Breaks" the premise and can't so easily be said to be more than something that is "Based On G1" or to put it another way I legitimately feel IDW as a Universe is further away from "Original Transformers" in some cases than Kiss Players is.
Why.. ? well it has to do with Characterisation - they change the personalities and when you do that what you are making becomes more of a re-imagining than a simple "other take" on a situation. but also the Context - if the Lost Light was the Ark say then you have a stronger argument for the Pro-G1 interpretation but the more differences you add the more it drifts away.
In conclusion IDW is another type of Transformers story loosely based on G1 just as Transformers Energon or Transformers Animated is. .. it may however be a closer relative than Transformers Prime is though in some ways but I can't condone it being called "Generation One" in any way that suggests it's interchangable with the 1980s content, or product directly derived from the 1980's content (like Road Rage).

the only downside of having those on store shelves in the UK is that like with the previous Platinum Editions here in the UK to begin with.........went for silly money(hiked prices) which'll no doubt be the case with these!

While this is really a topic for another thread, IDW is Gen 1 redux. A lot of characters started out as their G1 selves but ongoing development changed them (aka something the G1 toon never did).

But I'm still going to pick it up to get wreck gar and scrapheap together in one go, provided the price of admission isn't terrible.

But it's a shame that those 3P Junkion upgrade kits are few and far between these days. Otherwise I might have a reason to snag this set.

ZeroWolf wrote:While this is really a topic for another thread, IDW is Gen 1 redux. A lot of characters started out as their G1 selves but ongoing development changed them (aka something the G1 toon never did).
Don't worry it's not something I enjoy getting into either - it either promotes people to slag IDW off like crazy or to white knight them to the point of absurdity - Personally I just hope that one day someone else can start over who isn't quite so emmo about the whole franchise as IDW seems to be.
But I shouldn't really say that either as then it sounds like I'm being bitchy. I'm not offended by toys based on the comics as such - I just choose to see them as being more in keeping with the behaviours I expect Transformers to have than the ones James Roberts expects them to have. I'm glad for Mr. Roberts he was able to find a publisher for his spin-off fiction but it does not mean I'm prepared to over-write 30 years of history in my own mind just to please him either.
So like Wrestling or Table top RPGs, IDW is something I can say firmly doesn't suit me and I leave it to others to enjoy whatever it is that they enjoy about it while I actively chose to not participate in it.
But as I have enough compartmentalisation ability I don't actually mind at all if the odd toy is based on the current comics - if it please some for that to be the case - it's not especially offending me - as I as I said pay zero attention to what IDW or Hasbro farm to me story wise if it's IDW based.
The only reason I may sound slightly irked about it is that I can't say I approve of Hasbro using IDW bios on their toys - that doesn't make sense to me as the toyline and the comics have so little to do with each other much of the time. Even if the comics are included with some of the toys for some incomprehensible reason.
But to that all I can do is Shrug - it's not like it effects me that much as I usually buy Japanese toy anyway.

Cons: It's another "Rodimus&Friends" set. Not necessarily a bad thing, mind you, just not a high selling point knowing there was the solo release as well as the Battle in Space 2-Pack.

I wrote it in the article to a link which shows us that the set will be in the 80$ price range. Makes sense, its about 25$ per figure with premium decos.
Sabrblade wrote:The best thing about this set is the long-awaited return of the name "Hot Rod" instead of "Rodimus".
Moreso than this being another example of Hasbro releasing what was once a japan exclusive headsculpt?
Amelie wrote:I can't work out if the use of yellow is inspired or hideous. I need more photos.

There is a silver lining though. Since Classics hotrod is in this set it means that he cannot also be in the Platinum Rodimus vs Galvatron set. So I am even more certain now that it will be G1 reissues with Galvatronbeing in toon accurate colours.

Well, the Scrapheap head's kind of already been used a few times as SG Scrap Iron and TFSS Tarantulas. Sure, this is a Hasbro-original use, but it's still coming after two previous non-Takara uses.william-james88 wrote:Moreso than this being another example of Hasbro releasing what was once a japan exclusive headsculpt?

These are not any of them.
Oh well. A least the Junkion mold is one of the best of the past decade, so getting two of them will be worth it for some.

Anyone remember back when Wreck-Gars and Junkions (and a handful of other Generations deluxes) were 6 bucks at TJ Maxx / Marshalls? Those were good times.

I wouldnt call a mld that has a serious breakage issue to be one of the best. I hope that is fixed in this release.

If anyone buys from him/her please be very aware they use the same stock picture for all their auctions for an item, what you see *may* be the quality level of what you get, but very likely not. They also do not list the defects for each individual auction, if they say anything about what is wrong with the item at all.
There is a feedback thread for Lena. It's a mixed bag but as a customer I can say that many times it is in fact company extras and NOT failed QC. Here are the folowing figures that I can give my seal of aproval that have no defect whatsoever compared to the released versions:
MP Megatron
Legends Gelshark
Cloud Shockwave
Gen Tankor
Legends Tankor (bought for 6$ each shipping included!!!!!!!!!!)
Gen Roadbuster
Legends Whirl
Special edition clear gen roller
Universe Motromaster
TF Expo Exclusive MP Sideswipe (the mistake here was the name on the exclusive sticker sheet, but the toy is perfect Woohoo!)
As a fellow customer what I got WERE factory QC rejects, and their customer service leaves much to be desired. Congrats to everyone who was lucky and got good items.
Just keep your fingers crossed if you buy from them.

Supposedly TakaraTomy fixed the issue with the handle bars for the United and later releases. I'd still be careful and not move the manually, only use the Automorph.

Trypticon
Blaster Perceptor
Triple Changers
The only one we knew of far later were the Generations Dinobots.
As of now w only have photo evidence for the Planet of Junk with the other set rumourd to be Galvatron Vs Rodimus.
BUT, I spu something else here. Can anyone tell me what they see he in the back at the bottom. I cant quite make it out. Is this advertising another set? It just looks like Gen Skywarp to me.

Might be a bit of a stretch calling these premium decos. Hot Rod only has three paint colors and (appears to have) fewer application than the original release. If they really wanted to make him a premium they should have painted his body like the Challenge at Cybertron and Battle in Space sets did. Those sets also went the extra mile to paint the spoiler so he wouldn't have bright yellow legs. This new figure is anything but premium, it's a joke compared to what it could have been.
Meanwhile Wreck-Gar doesn't look much more spectacular than the original. It's a different deco, but not necessarily better or more complex.

That's a great set, I strongly recomend it! It is the only platinum to not show up in canada, with the rest exclusives at different places.
But that didnt matter because e-bay has LOADS of this set from Taiwan and Hong Kong at a comparable price to what we would pay at retail (and cheaper than you would pay in England I am sure). If you wanted this set, I wouldnt wait till it shows up locally, just check these ones out:

He's decent. He's not great as the articulation is a bit limited, but you can't go wrong with picking up any version of the guy. Do take note that some of the later releases have a loose arm socket, but no really major defects.
