Not to mention, it beat the records of several of the biggest films of all time.
Spider-Man*
Spider-Man 2
Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone*
Even Spider-Man broke more records than Harry Potter.
So for TF to do that, that's saying something.
Not to mention, Boxofficemojo says it's the biggest robot movie ever, even beating out Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
And it even beat out Passion Of The Christ.* (Let's not get into that discussion, please? That's for another forum.)
That's a hell of a list to top, and it did it.
It broke records for the biggest Monday, Tuesday, and Fourth Of July, ever.
Biggest demographics going to see the film:
African-Americans
Latinos
And Paramount/Dreamworks themselves said...mothers. (They're the second biggest audience behind the fanbase.)
Harry Potter may very well dominate the box office this period, but it certainly won't be able to outshine all of the records smashed by TransFormers, if at all. Especially when you add in the countries that haven't even gotten it yet.
Now that...is a feat beyond our wildest expectations.
*= biggest 7 day take for a non sequel film.

The movie opened early.
It was playing 24/7 in some locations.
So realistically... they fudged the numbers. Any titles they wish to claim that have no right to. Its called cheating.

How? How have they been fudged?
It broke records for the biggest Monday, Tuesday, and Fourth Of July, ever.
Each day the records were broken on were listed. It's not that difficult to understand. And it's worldwide take is total, not for specific days. There is no number fudging, no cheating. You're just all pissed of cuz it didn't tank like you and the Bayhaters said it would. Get over yourself.

No, it's called 'reporting how much it really made world wide'.

You know, I was wondering when the resident haters would show up and sprout some bullshit in a lame effort to discredit this movie.
I expected something a bit more than "fudged figures".
But I guess at this stage they don't have much left to hold onto.

These territories will add $200-250 more to the total.

Huh? Does this somehow mean less people saw the movie?

Kind of like fudging a picture of Michae Bay as a dog's head as it poo poos on a picture of transformers. Both are rather lame techniques.

Truly. I find the fact that he has access to vodka quite alarming.

Yes, the numbers were fudged. When box office totals came out after the six day opening, Paramount's numbers were off.
They UNDERREPORTED earnings by over a million dollars.
As for the 24 hour showings... let's look at that.
Those showing took place at the top ten multiplexes in the United States. Let's assume a window of three hours. Most theaters had 5 showings per screen, so this gives Transformers an additional three showings a day. Let's go nuts and say each showing sold out, each theater held 500 people, and the average ticket price was $10, even though all of these figures are likely much lower.
So, that's $5000 per showing. That puts them at $15,000 for each theatre with 24/7 showing. $150,000 per day. That's... just $1,050,000 for the week, even with the high figures(actual per-screen averages ran from $3000-6500 for the opening week of the film). So, basically... Transformers can legitimately claim its records.
And the studio doesn't claim the records, either. The information comes from Media By Numbers, which is an independent tracker. They have no incentive to "fudge" the numbers in one direction or another.
You have the right to dislike the film. But if you're going to make claims like this, it helps to have the facts to back it up.

Yeah, it's not called cheating if that's how much money it's made. As I always say: "It is what it is."

Wait til it hits Japan...I'll wager $100 million the first week in japan alone.
Don´t get any ilusions. The 300 million mark is very good. hitting the 500 mark is going to be very hard if not impossible, let alone a billion. But the fact the movie has got this kind of revenue is incredible.

The franchise itself could top 1 billion with the second movie and into the third( if indeed this is a trilogy or more) but the first movie will probably top out in 400-500 million range in theaters and perhaps upwards of 600 mill with dvd releases.

Not as much as Harry Potter though, it's already made 10 million dollars more worldwide (it's now at 330 million after one week, whereas Transformers is at 320 million after two weeks)

I believe potter is open in the U.K. already whereas transformers still has 2 more weeks before it hits there. The fair comparison would be how much money is made overall once the markets are all equal.

As a reader of the books, I didn't like the 5th one as much, but it is good movie to see with a bunch of friends that love to put the "Mystery Science Theater 3000 Twist" on the movie.
-Gwop looked like the boy's face on the Mad TV Logo
-"He's Back" made everyone yell sarcastic marks in our theater, my friend "No Sh** Sherlock!" XD
I aslo went to see TransFormers a third time and the theater was packed, so I was happy to see the movie still strong in the 2nd week.
