Below we can see Ken from Takara Tomy Legends Hot Rod paired with Chun-Li from generations Arcee and M.Bison (Vega) from Titans Return Megatron with Ryu from Titans Return Optimus Prime. These are Takara Tomy Mall exclusives set to be released in May 2018 and are priced at 8640 Yen for the pair of deluxe toys and 12960 Yen for the pair of voyager toys.
There is a pre-order campaign goal as well. If 3000 are ordered through Takara Tomy Mall, the figure stands (seen below on the show floor) will be included with the sets.
The lighting is always tricky in these conventions so if you want another look at these figures, we posted their official images here. If you are interested, you can see where you can preorder these figures here, and check out the official announcement trailer below.

I'm cool with the crossover concept. It's a wacky, ultimately fun crossover. But damn... the size class choices are way off for Ryu & M Bison (Vega), they should be in Deluxe class. Big guys likes of Honda, Blanka & Zangrief should be Voyagers if they decide to do it. If they don't need to stick to TR, Honda can use the Bulkhead mold from TF:Prime. Blanka can use Generations Rhinox's mold? TF: Prime's FE Starscream is almost perfect for Dhalsim.
So much possibilities... just thinking which mold through the ages best fits for which SFII character can be a ton of fun.
Too bad this crossover line probably won't last more than a year this it's an anniversary celebration special. Thus, not much more than these 4 characters.

That's not what the campaign was. The campaign was that the first 3,000 orders would get the stand if they could reach it by 11/27.
The campaign ended on 11/26 when they reached the goal. All orders placed after that don't come with the stand as it now states on the order pages. "This product "Dedicated display stand" is not included."

I'd have to disagree on Blanka. Screw the size classes, at least in this case, I can't help but feel like Quillfire's mold would be PERFECT for Blanka.

Never saw Blanka as a large character from the way he was always huddled/scrunched up but I figure beast wars Retrax/powerhug could work for his cannon ball attack o.O
& if not fatimus prime for E Honda, alternators/binaltech skids or blaster would work. My wallet is hoping this line is limited to the four figures.

I'm sticking with Quillfire because he also has a hunched posture, plus a beastly head with pointy teeth, and the quills sticking out of his back give a similar effect to Blanka's hair.
Am I crazy, or would this basically be perfect?

It would if either toy looked like his animation model. Unfortunately, Quillfire is less than accurate to his onscreen model.
Warrior Class
One-Step
I also doubt they'd dip into RID molds for this line.

Yeah, that's the part that I'll admit actually kills this idea. (that and the unlikeliness of them making more of these things in the first place.) Non-g1 stuff does generally seem to be regarded as disposable filler by the current powers-that-be.

But at least those look ok in at least one mode (vehicle), whereas these look nasty and badly coloured in all modes. And I say that as someone who hates Star Wars and loves Street Fighter.

For that matter wasn't Vega/Bison's alternate costume silver and black?

It was, yeah, though ideally she'd have the white tights as well. Also there are AFAIK no decent Chun-Li figures in those colours- we do have the excellent Figuarts but not in any alt colours. Which reminds me, I need to get the Figuarts Chun-Li eventually, she looks superb.

Oh dear. That's...not good.
Well, for the benefit of anyone who doesn't know: M. Bison was the name of the black boxing dude in the Japanese version. This was of course inspired by Mike Tyson. Anyway, the localization team were worried Mike might get a bit upset at being the inspiration for a villain, so they gave his name to Vega (the actual name of "M. Bison"). Vega's name meanwhile was given to sadistic claw-wielding lunatic Balrog, who in turn had his name given back to the nameless M. Bison.
So in summary:
Vega (JP) = M. Bison (US)
M. Bison (JP) = Balrog (US)
Balrog (JP) = Vega (US)
Posted by Sabrblade on May 25th, 2018 @ 9:32am CDT
And to top it off, Japan's version was made FIRST. The American version is what made these name changes, so it's technically the Japanese version that got the names the intended way.Black Hat wrote:Sabrblade wrote:He isn't. I played street fighter as a teenager in America, not Japan.
On a seperate note, Vega was always the guy nobody wanted to use and everyone loved beating up due to sterotypes about spandex wearing bull fighters. So the name "Vega" kinda worked for the character better considering it is actually Spanish/European name.

Besides, it's not like these toys are being marketed to Americans anyway, or they wouldn't be calling Optimus "Convoy" in English letters on the box. These are made by Japan for Japan, so they're gonna use the names that the Japanese buyers are familiar with. If that doesn't conform to your American-ethnocentrism, then oh well, they aren't making these for you personally anyway.

Yes, and this is a Japanese product, not an Amercian one. Or is using localization specific to the market it's actually meant for (which one of the IPs involved originated from) as opposed to pandering to the ignorance of one American fan who won't even buy the products anyway somehow a bad idea in Rated X world?

I'm guessing those guys didn't know how to use Vega, he was one of my most feared against in versus matches. Yohdaleyhoo, not quite sure why he yodelled but hey ho, he was awesome in the anime film.

Hmmmm....does anyone remember back in 2009-2010 when this site used to be ran by Americans and frequented by 95% American users? Ah, those were the days...when you could talk and think like an American on an American owned site without fear of getting heckled by foreigners? I miss those days. (Yes Saberblade, I know you are in Florida too lol)
Anyways, seeing as how we had Street Fighter everywhere, what incentive does anyone have to know the Japanese versions differences? Why would I know them? At 14 years age, I didnt even know those games were designed in Japan. Especially coming from a company with a name like "Capcom" that made 1942/1943 in which the goal is to decimate the Japanese army.
So yeah, no apology here for not knowing vega is really M. Bison.

Same, and those aren't even the only name changes:
Gouki (JP) - Akuma (EN)
Nash (JP) - Charlie (EN) (later he'd be renamed Charlie Nash or just Nash everywhere)
Sodom (JP and EN) - Katana (EN sometimes, mostly a Nintendo thing)
Andore (Final Fight) - Hugo (Street Fighter III)
Gouken (JP and EN) - Sheng Long (EN sometimes)
I think that's all of them.
I'm really looking forward to the SFxTF set, it's pretty goofy, but I find the idea of a bunch of Autobots and Megatron suddenly deciding to do Transformers cosplay hilarious enough to want them. I'll have to buy some of those Nano Metalfigs SF figures to go with them, they should be about in scale.

Commentary or explanation either pulled out of my ass or legit:
Gouki (JP) - Akuma (EN)
"Gouki" sounded too much like a cute mascot name (I think)
Nash (JP) - Charlie (EN)
Nash? Dash? Duuuurrrrr..... (But the later Charlie Nash is a nice recovery)
Sodom (JP and EN) - Katana
"Sodom" sounded too much like the biblical fun-city
Andore (Final Fight) - Hugo
Same with M. Bison, the character and name sounded way too close to the original legendary WWF wresler, Andre The Giant (a fellow Québécois BTW!) and it made the law team nervous.
Gouken (JP and EN) - Sheng Long
That one was completely random. "Gouken" didn't sound Asian enough?
Some changes were necessary, but others were petty whims at best.

"Sheng Long" for Gouken should be considered an unfortunate error, and an April Fool's joke gone out of hand. The name itself is actually a mistranslation of Ryu's special move, the Shouryuken, coupled with Capcom's infamous localisation skills.

That EGM april fool joke may have been Capcom's inspiration to make the "Sheng Long" character real. However, it was the creation of AKUMA because the circumstance of the fight and the fact that he's (was) a Ryu/Ken "repaint" make it pretty clear.
It's still pretty awesome from Capcom to have listened to the fans for that one.
Also, air throw, and fast fireballs were a thing later in Super Street Fighter 2.

And yes Pink/White Chun Li is already much like Arcee. Not keen on the Figuarts version cos the head looks too much like a porcelain child doll and very bland. I prefer the Storm collectables version (which is available in alternate colours) for a bit more aggression and character. Just paint the brown tights white I guess.
