I don't mean to exaggerate my feelings here, but I am a little sick over how they seem to be promoting the worst for Ratchet. I understand that they need to make room for more characters, but Ratchet has basically become the third most prominent Autobot in Transformers media. It really seems terrible that they'd do that to him. I'm anticipating the worst. But until we hear or see anything official regarding his fate, its still open.

Whatever happens, I'll accept it. Fiction doesn't die. :D

Not true for this Ratchet. This Ratchet's a nobody, as far as his screentime in these movies go.

Not all Ratchet's are equal, lest you also consider the following Ratchet to be an important character:

He means in recent times Ratchet is the third most used Autobot besides Optimus and Bumblebee in tv shows, comics and game these days like for example.

Animated

Wfc Foc

Prime

Movies.

I know what he means, and I'm saying that just because a character gets used doesn't always mean that their use makes them important.

Case in point, the movies had a Ratchet who was of little importance outside of two scenes: 1) Explaining Bumblebee vocal condition in the first movie, and 2) attaching Jetfire's parts onto Optimus in ROTF.

And helping Optimus retrieve Sentinel in DOTM. He also told the humans to mortar the space bridge. Which means there probably wouldn't have been as many explosions during Optimus's rage mode scene. Which would have disappointed me.

Yeah i agree with you in Rotf but the first movie had some good scenes with him and Dotm had a slightly bigger role for him kinda and he does somewhat act like a medic when him and prime go to the moon for sentinel and he explains Sentinel's levels are faint.

'A greater threat dawns'
It always does Optimus, it always does
Also Why does Ratchet always die in these trailers, is it the most interesting bit of the film or what?

He's toast. He was barely seen on set during filming as was completely absent during shooting for all the latter scenes of the movie, including the big finale. Plus there's no Ratchet toys outside of that one Kreon.

This really sucks. I had a very strong feeling that Ratchet was going to be sacrificed even before we saw any footage. I have a feeling Leadfoot is going to be taken out as well.

As for Ratchet's role in these movies, I remember hearing somewhere his toys didn't sell, so that's probably why he was reduced to background scenery for the next two installments.

Except those were things anyone could have done, and were generic enough to give nothing extra to whoever got to do them. Only in the two scenes mentioned before did he get used in ways that only he as a medic could do.

Though, I will give you that one small moment in DOTM when he notes Sentinel's condition, but it was still tiny, so that makes three nigh-insignificant moments for him out of all three films.

If they really need to kill Ratchet off, they should let Galvatron deal the fatal blow. If human soldiers are able to kill character with unlimited amount of luck, then they should be conside as a some kind of reality warper's race.

Here they are, the advertised 'viral' campaign products to support the release of the upcoming Transformers: Age of Extinction movie. This one in particular, uploaded to the TransformersAreDangerous.com website, focuses on the 'Fall of Chicago', the climax of Dark of the Moon, as reported by a number of fictional media outlets. Also found on the site are news clippings from international media about the Transformers on Earth, and downloadable posters, mirrored below. Check out the embedded clip, with a slightly longer look at Lockdown, too!

They keep saying "Transformers", but the Autobot/Decepticon divide was made pretty clear before (Like when the Decepticons demanded that all Autobots would leave the Earth). Also, what about the humans who collaborated with the Decepticons? Don't they get a mention?

Yup. Sides mean nothing. All people see is a war was brought to their planet that all transformers are responsible for. Anyhow, they didn't leave earth and as a result Chicago was destroyed. I know, i Know...
"But if they would have left then Earth would have been enslaved."
But how may people bedsides Nest really knew that? :-? To a majority of the world, the transformers just destroy everything they touch.

As far as the human collaborators go most (if not all) were killed by the decepticons already. So no need to mention them.

Not to mention that the previous films have shown the humans to possess weaponry that can kill Cybertronians. The humans soldiers are the bad guys in this movie, showing no mercy to the Autobots, wanting them all dead. If they're going after Ratchet, who evidently refuses to fight back, and get him cornered, they will not hesitate to be a ruthlessly swift in doing what they believe needs to be done. In that scenario of Ratchet vs. the humans, it's Ratchet who is a goner.

Most of transformers that died during Bay Movies didn't fight back, so it's not strong arument. And considering number of times Autobots were saved from certain death in this universe, I'm suprised that reality isn't going wild when Ratchet is cornered. Each Soldier fightning with Ratchet should beign hited by different thunder...

Yeah. different thunder?

I think it's sad but realistic for the humans to turn on the Autobots. People fear what they don't feel like they can control. They felt ok when they thought the Autobots needed them. But I bet when they pulled a fast one and didn't leave like they told them too, (In DOTM) they got sore. Yeah sure, that was a mistake, but people wanting to keep power don't admit mistakes.

But humans have shown an increasing ability to adapt, and would most likely have plenty of weapons to turn on an autobot. And when you're a good guy and a medic to boot, you don't want to fight back. Had they gone after Prime, he would have been able to take care of himself. But Ratchet is a medic. In war, that's a no-no but I don't think the humans are really concerned about that.

SOUND EFFECT
MALE VOICE #1: "Citizens! Transformers are still among us. If we spot them, we can stop them. Press 1 to report a Transformers sighting. To find out more about how you can keep Earth human, visit transformersaredangerous.com"
MALE VOICE #2:"Your message may be recorded and used on our website. Thank you for reporting alien activity."
FEMALE VOICE #1:"Thank you. To return to the main menu, press 1."
FEMALE VOICE #2:"Thank you for calling. Goodbye."

And if you actually press 1, you get a tone, then it skips to the two female voices.

There's something vaguely sinister about their faces in that poster- especially Bumblebee's. I don't know what it is about it. The creepy, sinister feel of those posters is all part of the propaganda behind them. The Transformers have been deemed public enemies, and these posters are supposed to help emphasize the scary, dangerous nature that the governments want the public to think of the Transformers as.

Here's some more Transformers: Age of Extinction news for you! Entertainment and media website IGN had the chance to interview Mark Wahlberg, who plays inventor and single dad Cade Yaeger in the upcoming movie, in which he touches upon what is new about the new film - from 'recruiting' the dinobots to what he anticipates the fans' reaction will be. Additionally, German YouTube channel Movie Captain has a good chat with Nicola Peltz, who plays Tessa Yaeger, and talks about how the character is different from Carly or Mikaela, and her relationship with the other actors in the cast. Check both out embedded below!

I agree with other poster who said they should speak with art directors and such instead of just the actors especially when addressing "die hard fans". I had to laugh when MW said this movie was more real/believable than the others. Unicron is coming...has to be. There is so little than can be said and MW said the Die Hards will be blown away with a new threat and new villains. Again I hope we see more than just Galvatron, Lockdown, and drones. I'm so pumped for the movie. I recently started dating someone that hasn't seen any of them. I'm not going to bother showing her TF or ROTF...think DOTM will prepare her for AOE. She is cool with my hobby and that is a major plus in my book. I had about given up on finding someone accepting of Transformers...do not know what it is about Central Illinois but women here are monumentally picky, uppity, and self absorbed to the max.

Why can't there be a balance between the two? Just because the robuts are featured more often, doesn't mean that Bay has to overcompensate by taking away any vestiges of plot the movies still had. I honestly thinks that he sometimes forgets that the Transformers are actual characters with depth. What I want to see in AOE is more scenes like the ones in DOTM, with Optimus and Sentinel debating and Optimus mourning Ironhide. Scenes that convey the idea that they're actual characters, not just plot devices. Personally, I'd like to see a movie something along the lines of Rescue Bots and Transformers: Prime, where the humans are actually integral to the plot, but they don't hog screen-time and they don't just serve as the "token kids we're supposed to relate to". So basically, Human Alliance/Rescue Bots: The Movie.
END OF LINE RANT

That had to be some people from just general movie-going audience. I doubt TF fans would frown on more bots even if they weren't characterized well. For instance, Jetfire, DotM Megatron and Shockwave. The characters sucked, but at least they were in there.

Would you guys have been OK with it if only Grimlock was introduced from the Dinobots, or did it have to be all 5 of them?

Having more heart and a family aspect sound like good things in my book, as they might suggest less vulgarity this time around.

I really hope not.

When are these folks going to realize that the main characters of The Transformers need to be the actual Transformers???
The sad truth of the matter is that these films ride on the success of catering to the lowest common denominator of casual moviegoers instead of fans, which leads to the human cast being the main focus since that's who general audiences want to see. Oh, they also want to see the robots too, but to them, the robots are "whats" rather than "whos". Plot devices, pretty special effects, and decoration rather than people. The non-speaking Decepticons being portrayed as savage monsters also doesn't help things.

Metro Prime wrote:Personally, I'd like to see a movie something along the lines of Rescue Bots and Transformers: Prime, where the humans are actually integral to the plot, but they don't hog screen-time and they don't just serve as the "token kids we're supposed to relate to". So basically, Human Alliance/Rescue Bots: The Movie.
END OF LINE RANT
Or even something like Masterforce, which was another series that used its humans elegantly and competently. ;)

The lack of humans in that show seemed to be okay for most people, but there were a lot of other things that people disliked about it at the time that the lack of humans probably didn't matter either way. But since the series was so poorly received back then, Hasbro's never tried a human-less TF TV series ever again.

The closest they ever came back to doing this was with the Omega Keys arc in TF: Prime season 2, as well as the Predacons Rising movie, which were both devoid of human characters and that notion seemed much better received for each.

Well, there were those cave men... (Loved BW, BTW. :D )
He said "Beast Machines". Waspinator's flashback shouldn't count.

  • When Optimus Prime Rises the CGI has been tweaked
  • Additional ships in the space shot
  • Crosshairs is now wearing his goggles
  • Smoke has been added behind Cade and Shane as they're running
  • The Nightship is visible in the shot where Cade punches down in slow motion
  • Grimlock's position in the semifinal shot is different
