Fellow Seibertronian PrimeVsPrime has once again reached out to us, and graced us with another video review for the Deluxe-class Lockdown from the second wave of Studio Series figures. Alongside posing and transformation, we get a great look at the extensive detail adorning his robot and vehicle modes, as well as comparisons to the previous Age of Extinction Deluxe Lockdown and the other Studio Series figures released so far.

Of course, we want to hear your opinions too! Do you have Lockdown yet too? If you do, let us know what you think of this toy by posting in the Energon Pub Forums - or if you've only seen the review, tell us what you're most anticipating about it!

In this review, I take yet another look at the latest entry into the Studio Series line, that being the Studio Series Lockdown! I showcase the figure in both his robot-mode as well as his vehicle-mode. I also show a step-by-step guide of how to transform him from his robot-bounty hunter mode to his Lamborghini Aventador alt-mode. This is the final figure that I shall be taking a look at this week as I have reviewed and collected all the Studio Series figures released thus far!

Man, that Lockdown is like night and day compared to the original. I was going to skip it, but after seeing those comparisons it's a HUGE improvement. May just pick it up.

The Brawl and Jazz videos, on the other hand, have enforced my decision to skip them. Both are just too tiny for their price point. Brawl doesn't look much bigger than the deluxe version from the first movie, and I think the first movie leader figure just suits him better. And Jazz is almost a scout class he's so small. No way I'm spending $20 on him when I already have the original deluxe and the HA versions.

Looks like a sizable improvement on the old Lockdown figure. The sculpting on him is top notch, but I’m still not sure if I’ll get him. At least not right away. Odds are I’ll just wait until HTS runs a good discount on figures to pick him and Jazz up. It’s nice that he has more articulation than I previously thought (had no idea he’d have an arm swivel and ankle joints), but no wrist and especially not waist articulation is a huge bummer. Not going to get any real dynamic poses out of him. On a personal level I think I would have preferred it if he had been a smallish voyager, similar to Prime.

Brawl and Megatron are immediate buys though. I had some reservations about Brawl when we got our first look at him, but he’s really grown on me. I get an almost Generations Darkmount/Straxus vibe off of him.

So far I think this line has been great. A couple minor misses, but mostly some fantastic hits. I’m just hoping that this line doesn’t end any time soon, because of the Movie universe getting a reboot after ‘Bee. I want more. It would be fantastic to see an updated voyager Shockwave, a redeco of Blackout as Grindor, the Constructicons, and definitely more dreadbot/vehicons. I want to build an army of uglies.

Basically I want many more Decepticons. :CON: .

Even if I have Peru Kill, that Lockdown is PERFECT for the regular Movie line. Seriously, the AoE original was complete garbage compared to the SS one. Much like the original AoE Grimlock leader. I got rid of both for that reason. Look like Jazz and Lockdown are the only two deluxes that I'll ever get for the SS line. That is, until they announce some unexpected extraordinary figures.

He does actually have a waist joint! PrimeVsPrime doesn't find it until right before the transformation, but it's there :D

Oh, wow. That’s what I get for not watching the entire video. Thanks for the correction! That actually changes things quite a bit for me. I think Lockdown just moved up to a definite “buy” now.

Anyone know of any suitable choices for Lockdown's Steeljaws? At present my Lockdown has had to recruit Ravage and a Xenomorph for the time being. :P

Easy. Go with the AoE 1step. It's a pretty good figure in itself. But it's blue. Maybe repaint it?

I actually had that but sold it in March of last year as I didn't really like it (and didn't have a Lockdown figure at all to even try fit it with). Bit too big and chunky for my tastes though, I'd quite like something the size and articulation of the Legion Ravage in my pic but also easily affordable so i could have a couple of them without costing too much or taking up too much shelf space (or space on the backdrop card). Wish Hasbro had made little ones. :P

EDIT: Found another sorta substitute in my collection (one of the few G1 figures I have left and nowhere near complete as this was my spare inner robot and I sold the complete one)
:P

Ooops I left his robot hands out...which actually don't look too bad that way. :P

I've ordered Megatron for £29.99 and £5.50 DPD postage from TF-Express (which states it's in-stock) since Forbidden Planet are advertising it for £32.99 (not including delivery) but not out til 12th August and the only UK based sellers on eBay that have it are asking about £50 plus £8 postage.
http://shop.tfs-express.com/studio-seri ... results=17

And just as I went to get that link the thing has changed from In Stock to No Longer In Stock... so I'm hoping that they did indeed have it and that it's miiiiine. Cos I have paid.

Ah nuts, I could have tried that cos I had that figure up until last April as part of the Predator mini-con team from the big batch of Mini-cons that came with some other figures I had bought. I didn't collect mini-cons so they all got sold off in their teams to other folk. doh.

Since when is it a problem if the vehicle modes ARE reasonably accurately scaled for once? We were just pointing out to anyone who thinks Jazz is too small that he's actually quite well scaled which ever mode you have him in.

Can you guys tell me how much Studio Series deluxe cost for you and at which stores?

The Wal-mart that I drove out to a few weeks ago wanted 21.99 for them, while my local Fred Meyer wants 24.99. I went to Target today and I saw an empty slot where I thought they would go and the price was 29.99 which I don't think could have been for the deluxe. (24.99 is pushing it imho) I doubt the price would vary by that much so I want to know what prices you guys are seeing, thanks for your time!

US dollars, but if you are in the UK I can just use google to figure out the exchange rates. I do that all the time with sightings anyways.

I don't think those tend to be very accurate. Cos we in the UK tend to have to pay more. Like often something for $30 in your country costs me £30 to buy here which clearly isn't the same amount of money. :P Studio Deluxes are supposed to be £22.99 - £24.99 here and Voyagers about £29.99 - £32.99 and Leaders £49.99 - £54.99 depending where shopping.

In other news that cool looking DNA Design upgrade kit for Grimlock has now been shown in colour with paint matching that of the figure. As someone who was pretty disappointed in the Grimlock (the ONLY Studio purchase I feel any buyers remorse with) I'm finding this kit to be an essential purchase as it fixes some of my biggest problems with the figure. If I can find it easy available from a UK website.

Oh wow, that is 10 USD more about. I always knew that pounds were more than dollars but I didn't think by that much holey moley! I know that Australia things are more pricey too but considering to ship anything there it's gotta be by air or sea. Now that I think of it, that is true of the UK but I don't think about it often because it isn't so far from the rest of Europe.

Google exchange rates tend to be spot on when I order things from Japan and need to do yen to USD.

My local Walmarts both have Deluxe for for $19.96 and Voyager for $29.84. They don't sell Leaders anymore, but I believe both Kmart and Target have them for $49.99 (other classes are priced basically the same as Walmart).

Wondering if there's going to be a Studio Barricade at some point. Of his original design. The DotM Deluxe is still good but I'd be up for them trying yet again.
For now I've got a sorta-junker Barricade (missing his doors) displayed with them currently using Jazz's backdrop until spares of Ratchet and Bumblebee's backdrops arrive (I think I'll use Bee's backdrop) kindly donated by fellow Seibertron member Munkky. :)

Image

Yes I need more shelves though Balancing Barricade is a sorta cool visual. :P

Been looking at the pics of the old Bonecrusher toy, particularly the Movie the Best one and wondering how cool that'll look as a Voyager class with more detail and such.

We badly need a bigger bonecrusher, I had the jungle redco of him that was in the allspark power line. He was fun to transform and play with but he didn't work as a visual representation of the character, especially since prime absolutely towered over him

Yep. Only option in 2007 to have Bonecrusher not look tiny was to use to use Fast Action Battler Optimus Prime to fight Bonecrusher. And later on Dark of the Moon Deluxe Optimus Prime. Neither of which were ideal solutions but we kept hoping Boney would get at least Voyager figure at some point. So yeah now here we are with the Studio line and I truly hope reports/rumours of a new figure turn out to be true. :)

Hope we get a nice shot of the roads and bridges they fought on as Boney's backdrop card.

I been watching Age of Extinction again (might possibly be my fave of the 5 but i ain't sure cos i loves them all to various degrees, certainly having more fun watching it than most films that have come out in a long time though). Anyways I'm totally more appreciating the paintjob of Studio Grimlock (but again also really wanting the DNA Design kit as soon as possible). Also pondering if a more accurate Galvatron could be possible... I mean sure it's completely impossible to have him transform like he does in the film at all (I mean you could ground your figure into mid-transformation dust but then it's a tricky thing to put it back into either form) but maybe another go at the AoE Voyager but with better ways of folding all those truck panels so that at least can't be seen at all from his front and so making a more streamlined form? Oh and a paintjob more like the Takara version of that toy rather than the sub-standard Hasbro effort. And would a triple changer Drift be at all possible? Don't think we've had even one attempt at that yet. A deluxe scale robot to car to chopper is probably an insane thing to even contemplate but i wonder if any of the toy designers be up for the challenge (I will accept his swords being the rotor blades like Springer) :)

Anyways sorry for posting so much. I live a lonely life. I go hide away in my dark lil corner again for a day or so. Byes. :)

How about a figure you have to smelt down and re-mold each time you transform it? Rebirth by fire! 8-}

That's why AoE is the movie I hate the most. Appart the wasted potential of the dinobots, those transformation scenes were pure laziness.

This custom painted silver Megatron is lovely. I do wish the store bought figure was this shiny but I guess that's budget for you. Is silver paint that costly? Is that why Jazz has it? Cos he's smaller than a regular Deluxe and so they could afford to add it?

This video shows a jetwing/weapons kit (which I think was made for AoE Evasion Prime) being connected to a custom painted Studio Prime who looks lovely with all that extra painted detail.

Image

Some people seemed confused about Studio Lockdown's bladed weapon and how it attaches to the figure and I noticed when watching AoE again yesterday that he does indeed wear it attached to his left forearm like the figure can do, keeping his left hand free most notably in this scene where his hand is grabbing Bee's leg.
Image
(Sorry for the blurry pic, I was watching it in lovely high def on Blu Ray on my PS4 but my PC doesn't have a Blu Ray drive so grabbed this much lower quality video off the internet which is not great but you get the idea)

There's no need to worry about that, I promise! As long as you have something to say, this site exists for people to talk about Transformers and that's what we come here to do. Post as often as you want, for those of us who don't always have the time to :D

Now that looks snazzy! If I had the skills and the time to spare I'd definitely try that with Megs when I get him, but as is I'm sure I'll be happy enough with the stock colors. Grey plastic's never really bothered me as much as it does some...

After having owned Revenge Optimus Prime (Takara's shinier Battle Blades Optimus Prime) for a couple weeks I have come to the conclusion that while that mold is more accurate generall (particularly in truck mode), the Studio Optimus Prime is simply a more fun, less frustrating figure to play with. Also he's a lot of fun to pose because of his great articulation.

For example heel to crotch and standing completely stable on the other foot. Not many action figures in general can do that. Is like Spider-Man legs :P

I found these while bored on one of our devices at Target. Most at old but some new ones bring some interesting stuff!
The list is:

Voyager Ironhide
Deluxe blue light
Deluxe Stryker
Deluxe #20 Mercenary
Deluxe Brawl (place holder maybe?)
Deluxe Ratchet (Rerelease or DOTM colors?)
Deluxe jass (sassy jazz?)
And last studio series #30 Voyager “Fox”

The latter suggests that’s the sudio series could be last longer past voyager ROTF Starscream, which makes sense considering the listing of another prime and bonecrusher. So much to look forward to at This years San Diego’s Comic Con! ;)

These are so new that they don't have prices and some of them use code names like 'Stryker'. If you are not farmiliar with code names we do have some information on them from a few months ago. So far we are aware that Stryker is most likely a code name for Bumblebee. It appears we are getting Ironhide, Jazz (Despite that hilarious typo), Brawl and Ratchet. The code names left for speculation are Fox, Mercenary and Blue light. Who do you think we will get? And out of the characters we already know what deco do you think we will get of them? Let us know.

Looking forward to seeing Ironhide and see what they've learnt over the years through his various sizes of figures. I just want a non-fiddly torso/arms dammit (what's it like on the MPM? cos it's always been a pain in the butt on the voyagers)

Bring on more Studio figuuuurreeesss! :D

I presume that Ironhide will take cues from the HFTD Deluxe.

I hope that like 'Jass' ratchet being a deluxe is a mistake. I want bigger Ratchet so he can scale with the other deluxes better. Ambulances are larger than sport cars.

I think there might be some mistakes here, like that deluxe Brawl

Am confused. We already have Ratchet and he's a Deluxe and he's a tall Deluxe, same height as Lockdown and bigger than Bee and Jazz.

Ironhide being listed as voyager? Maybe cos he's got more bulk? And big cannons?

He isnt a tall deluxe, he is just the same height as the average deluxe. Him being bigger than the two smalleest deluxes of all time doesnt make him tall.

Now Animated and ROTF Lockdown and Battle Blade Bee, those are tall deluxes.

Those are very old figures now. You cannot compare those figures size to more recent figures. Hasbro pretty much have been changing the size definitions over the years. So much so that a 2014 Movie Advanced re-deco of 2010 Battle Blade Bee was classed as Voyager. Ratchet and Lockdown ARE tall deluxes in the Studio scale in that they are the tallest of the Deluxes (that I own anyways). Those figures you mention are not part of this series and so do not count.

That still doest make Ratchet a tall deluxe. He isnt bigger than a combiner wars deluxe. He's just normal size. And I can compare what I want as I please, you are not the boss of me [-(

Yeah. It's funny, I compared SS Stinger with BBBB and Bee is like twice the size of Stinger. Though I will say I like the Stinger mold enough I'd take a reshell of him as AOE Bee.

Seeing as you mention Lockdown I'm still not sure if I want the ROTF version or some variant of the Animated mold (I'm thinking TAV). Animated Lockdown goes fairly cheap, but dear lord ROTF Lockdown looks awesome.

He's taller than a lot of movie Deluxes over the past few years. Various Bumblebees, TLK Barricade, and I tried measuring him (and Lockdown) with some other figures i still own such as some past movie Deluxes like DotM Barricade, Sidearms Sideswipe (whom i always felt was a bit tall) and that was roughly same height, and some non-movie Deluxe figures like RTS Tracks (Ratchet is a tad taller), and Wolfwire (again Ratchet is noticably taller) but again none of that means anything to the Studio scale in which Ratchet and Lockdown are the tallest Deluxes (that I can compare as I don't have Stinger and Crowbar) with Jazz being by far the smallest. That's what my original point and comparison was. I dunno why all the arguing when I thought we'd all gotten the idea of the scale thing Hasbro were going with here and how they are fitting certain characters into classes and the factors involving scale, cost, amount of parts, mass of plastics, paintjobs and such. That's way it looks to me anyways but I don't know anything really.
