Video Review - Takara Tomy Masterpiece Platinum Edition Year of the Goat Soundwave

Ugliest toy of the year, our Soundwave is!

I see this kind of like soundblaster: people who do buy it will be doing so mostly for Ravage, because lets be honest, it makes a good "stealth" ravage.

looks like my "MP oddities" display will have a new member soon!

Granted, that color scheme is ugly as hell. Also, I see no use to owning that because I already own the Hasbro MP Soundwave set.

However, I'm still very happy with this set.
Why?
DAT BOX.
It's writings are in English, Spanish, and... FRENCH! Which mean this will be available in Quebec and it's a good sign for things to come.

Absolute and complete garbage.. ESPECIALLY when you consider the fact that hasbro should've figured out a way to release soundblaster with ratbat.. There's no reason and no need for this.

Pffff speak for yourself. YOTG Soundwave looks awesome, and I'm super psyched for it. It's nice to see that Hasbro and Takara are willing to try new things and put out interesting, out-of-left-field pieces using MP molds.

As a Japanese Headmasters character, releasing Soundblaster (and subsequently Ratbat) in the US would be tough. If you want it so bad, stop griping and just buy it. A bunch of places are selling him at reduced prices these days.

At first I thought he was pure garbage, but he has grown on me and I am VERY tempted! Got both SW and SB and all the cassettes and the rare 'completionist' side of me has reared it's ugly head This really is an interesting take and if the clear plastic holds up I wont be able to resist.

I also agree about a U.S. release of SB, if his price has dropped then why not?

Just hope he is still available in a month or so, a lot of stuff being released atm and I've got to spread em out a little.

I'm sure somebody else has already said this but that deco really almost resembles Machine Wars Soundwave.

I really like the clear with the bronze scheme. I'm just not sure of the usage. His head is lacking something. Maybe if his face plate where bronze or just his helmet. Still pretty cool just from a "strange and wonderful" perspective. I'm set for this mold though.
That Lazor Prime may be another story.

I still stand by the idea that this should be re-purposed as Shattered Glass Soundblaster. The colors are nice warm tones and whites and would suit a heroic character.

Plus, it even has the sort of "limited exclusivity" that Shattered Glass toys are famous for!

Though, this is Hasbro Asia, rather than Takara.

So glad this looks so awful. I was only interested in the cassettes but they're simply wretched. Glad for money saved.

True but by the time of last year the preorder for YotH is all over, this year I haven't heard anything from domestic retailers, BBTS, tfsource etc.

That does remind me, I got my YotS stuff in the middle of the (lunar) year, and YotD OP by the end of Dragon year, for a steal price though. Guess I'll have to wait the YotG stuff until summer time.

I visited a TRU today, and they still had a YOTH Starscream. And not just an old banged up one, it was a minty one (!), one they didn't have last week and that is very clearly case fresh.

MP Soundwave is a great figure but really, HasTak? Clear and ORANGE? Who thought that was a good idea? If anyone knows if this deco is rooted in any G1 obscurity, please, by all means, tell me and I'll keep quiet. Otherwise, I feel like they have a shelfwarmer like Platinum Edition Starscream on their hands.

I tried BBTS a while back and didn't find them either, so don't think they are carrying them. I looked elsewhere and found them for a reasonable price at RK.

That caused me to shift a few pre-orders to RK and the money I saved on paying U.S. import prices to import to Aust covered most of the cost for Soundwave, so I could justify buying him

Possibly because they haven't been selling well or because they aren't as "exclusive" to a particular retailer as once was thought.

I sincerely doubt that places like Target or Walmart (U.S. ones, that is) would want to sell any of the Platinum Edition toys. The way I see it, the main reason TRU is the only store that carries the Platinum Editions, the Hasbro Masterpieces, and other big expensive collector-oriented TF figure is because TRU is the only retailer willing to carry them.

Remember when Walmart had the MP Starscream and MP Skywarp that Hasbro put out? Both of those shelfwarmed out the wazoo. Whereas Hasbro's later MPs seem to sell a lot better at TRU.

$7 on clearance.

I kick myself now for not getting the other two, but they must have shelfwarmed pretty badly to have been marked down that far.

Or was it a problem with distribution, where some areas got way too much product and others got next to nothing? If I had to guess, I'd be inclined to believe it being due to the different types of customers who shop at each. Walmart's known for having lower prices than most stores, so it's probably expectant of those who shop at Walmart for anything to spend less money than they would at other places. And not necessarily on toys since the toy section is but one part of a much wider selection of goods.

TRU, however, is a place that not only focuses primarily on selling toys, but is also known for being higher-priced than most places. So a customer who shops there would be expected to spend more money in that store than they would if they were to shop for toys elsewhere. Thus, higher-priced items like MPs and Platinums would make more sense to be carried by the store that already deals with big-spending customers.

I know what you mean. I remember getting 2 Armada Unicrons on clearance for $13 each from Target. There were 2 left, and I felt the same way - totally should have gotten the other 2.
