Few have ever seen Shockwave and lived. This is the hand that ensures Decepticon plans remain secret from the Autobots. He eliminates evidence and witnesses with brutal, emotionless efficiency. The only hints he ever leaves of his presence are smoking craters and the collapsed tunnels through which he travels.

So that would imply that the "tentacled-thing" coming out of the ground (in the movie trailer) is indeed Shockwave, right? I've heard it's his "pet", also. Too early to tell...

Judging by the prequel comics it appears to be an indigenous Cybertronian animal that Shockwave has captured.

I haven't read any movie-verse comics.

i believe he is referring to the G1 comics in his enquiry. the relationship in which Shockwave takes over the decepticons claiming that megatron is unfit to lead, based on several grudge based decisions. Having read the movie comics related to shockwave, i believe he is being characterized more as a blood (energon) thirsty, killing (autonomous) machine.
