Not all.

The letter ん or ン is like the letter N without a vowel and is used to conclude a syllable, like the N in "Convoy" (コンボイ Konboi).

Sounds like something Flavor Flave would say: Con Boiiiiiii!

Drop the N in "green", change the P to B in "jeep", and add an "er" on the end.

"Greejeeber" :-B

Yeah, exactly as I said then: greenjeep spelled phonetically when said in a japanese accent :P

Not quite. The term comes from, as I've stated previously, the affixation of the suffix "er" to verb forms to create a noun. Usually, we do this with action verbs to denote an "agent" (one who does something) in a construction. Examples include "runner", "thinker", "gunner", etc.

In toy names, similar, or different aspects of morphology have been used to create names such as " Tankor", "Thrustor", "Ro-Tor", "Ground Shaker " and "Green-Jeeper". This was then affected by the the phonological aspect of (assimilation?), where the bilabial plosives, /p/ and /b/ can be interchanged in some utterances. Japanese learners, by virtue of the limited phonemic range of their L1, cannot always comprehend these sounds, resulting in "jeeBA".

Relatedly, "green Jeep" would be pronounced "guriinu jiipu" ("goo-ree-noo Jee-poo") , and not "jiipa".

Hope this helps.

Except for the fact "Minerva" has a base in the Latin language. "Gregevor", on the other hand, does not.

No, but this is a romaji transcription of a katakana term, so it is similar in that someone at Takara converted an unknown katakana word (back) into romaji. In both cases, all the staff had to do was check online or a dictionary for help.

Takara is to English, what Hasbro is to stock photography/posing toys.

To add to the confusion, the sound is interchangeable with /m/ (as an end sound). For example, there is a station in Chiba with two romaji signs, showing "Kahin Makuhari" and "KahiM Makuhari" next to each other.

I think that has more to do with the fact that "n" can glide into an "m" when directly followed by any "m"-kana, ハンマー (hanma for "hammer" for instance. Also, at least the "h"-kana with either the dakuten or handakuten can make an "n" turn into an "m": コンピュータ (konpyūta) for "Computer" or サンバ (sanba) for "Samba".

The kana for mu, む/ム, was originally used for the n sound as well, while ん was originally a hentaigana used for both n and mu. In the 1900 Japanese script reforms, hentaigana were officially declared obsolete, and ん was officially declared a kana to represent the n sound.

I think it was just the obsolete form of katakana.

So that giant Prime appears to be based off those animation stills we saw. Too bad it doesn't come with a weapon all its own. I also find it funny that one of its features is a sliding panel for the QR code.

HUGE NEWS guys. I know I have been waiting on this for a really long time. They finally revealed the deco for TAV Drift, Adams (Cosmos), Powerglide AND the Steeljaw redeco (which is completely different from what I thought it would be):

Do you guys spot many changes with the original figures?

WHOA, Drift looks great! The Steeljaw redo looks super duper too. Is it Prowl? Is it Clampdown? Quick, somebody get over here and translate. Jelze, Sabr, where you at?

I don't see much difference in Cosmos and Power Glide. I'm gonna go ahead and say I like CW PG better. That scan code sticker is slightly unfortunate.

I see NO difference for Cosmos, to the point that I still feel this is a stand in figure from Hasbro. And Steeljaw is surely prowl. I am still not sold on drift though, I have to see his face. Extra paint on the lower legs is not enough for me.

Drift isn't hugely different, but the extra paint apps on his shins look nice, and I assume because it's the Takara release they'll bother to paint in his 'stache.

I don't know what's up with that Steeljaw redeco, but I like it. Shame the mold is awful though.

Hasbro's Powerglide is definitely the superior version, but there's not much difference with Cosmos (except for the moved and downsized autobot symbol; again, I like the look of the Hasbro version better).

Clamp Down is the crab remember? ;)

That Steeljaw redeco is called "Phantomjaw", with a deco similar in theme to Strongarm. Except he's evil and is more similar to Barricade ;)

I don't see much difference in Cosmos and Power Glide. I'm gonna go ahead and say I like CW PG better. That scan code sticker is slightly unfortunate.

Yeah, go for the US versions as the Japanese versions omit the Micromaster (if any) and have the scan code sticker. No exceptions.

That's why I suggested looking "very closely". As you said, the differences aren't as obvious from a distance. ;)
