Uh, I asked a question above for anyone who has both the UW and CW versions of Devy, I'll just quote it here:

SillySpringer wrote:I have a question: Are the greens and purples on CW Devy and on UW Devy different? Cuz I am kinda tempted to get the Dr. Wu Mixmaster upgrade but I want the greens and purples to match up.

they're pretty much identical, or at least close enough that you can't tell the difference.

Both the purple and green right? Ok so I was concerned about having to deal with Dr. Wu releasing two versions with only a SLIGHT colors difference, and then me getting the wrong one and me being like "ONO!" :BANG_HEAD:

I hate it when people say "crap" to official figures and go with 3rd party figures all the time. WHO CARES about scale with other combiners eh? It's a great design, and it scales PERFECTLY with the Combiner Wars Megatron, which I think is what they were going for. I don't mind 3rd party, but only to an extent. I like upgrades for official figures and stuff, but I am not planning to get many 3rd party combiners in the future with MAYBE the exception of DX9 War in Pocket Hulkie.

I care about scale. And when you have as much money invested in a properly scaled classics collection as I have, an extra large, big for the sake of being big Devy is not an option. I don't play with my figures, so I have no need for the up-sizing unless the character is portrayed that way in the G1 cartoon. (my preferred continuity)

You endorse the word "official" and express interest in Dr. Wu's replacement Mixmaster all in the same post. >:oP

Obviously you aren't satisfied with certain aspects of the "official" Devastator either. Hasbro's just a toy company that owns a bunch of 30 year old copyrights and trademarks. Most of the people who had anything to do with the creation of G1 in the 1980's are no longer on Hasbro's payroll. I hate when people use the word "official" thinking they're defending the actual creators of G1. All they're defending are a bunch of corporate executives that inherited somebody elses legacy. That's why I support everybody, not just the owners of the brand.

and IMO, to me these changes feel unnecessary. They're not needed, especially if you're just gonna get the set for Devy. I can't believe fans are big enough babies to make Takara put in set for individual bots that won't even be displayed. You can enjoy or hate the individual bots, but chances are the combined mode is the only thing that'l be displayed on your shelf.
Technically, Hasbro's is the changed one. Though Hasbro's came first, the stuff in the Takara version that the Hasbro version lacks was in Takara's original plans for the toy, but were taken out of Hasbro's release for budgetary reasons. Takara simply put back in what Hasbro had had removed.

Yup, I was gonna write this. If someone wants the unchanged version, they should go for the Takara one. This is one of the few wide retail Hasbro figures of the past ten years to be designed by Takara. For that alone, I wanted the complete experience. However, I completely understand if anyon preffers owning the modified Hasbro version.

Also, one of my main joys in this toy is transforming him and building him up which means I deal with all modes as much and would very much appreciate that they all look good. Spending money on an expensive toy for only 1 decent mode doesn't make any sense to me. But thats just me.

durroth wrote:My only problems with Takara Dev: Scrapper's arms lock holy crap tight, I keep popping his forearms off the rotator peg trying to get his elbows unlocked.

And what I assume is a problem/feature on all 3 versions of devastator, inserting Scavenger's arm connector unpegs his hips from his crotch, which makes them held in place a bit looser than Bonecrusher's

Oh right, and I would have liked the new takara elbows without the extra double elbow but that's just me, I feel like it still looks like the elbow is half torn off the arm.

Durroth, I agree on the double elbows. It would look perfectly fine if it was a straight piece, making a nice elbow. But at the same time, I wont downplay added playability. I do find it fun how Mixmaster can look all double 07 :)

That issue with Scavenger's arm also bugs me and it took me a while to realize I wasnt doing anything wrong.

I dont have any issues with Scrapper though and that piece never came off. The way I undo his elbow is I apply pressure where it is needed and keep a finger over the opposite side. It both makes it easier to undo and nothing comes off.

The purples and greens match well enough, if there is a difference, I cant see it.

Silly Springer, I might have to take some words back, the shade of green is different on UW Dev. As seen below it is more lime green while Hasbro is more on the yellowish side. The purples are the same though.

Here are some pics I found from tf fan st.ranger:

I also just noticed here that even the hand mold on Longhaul is different than Hasbro.

Fair enough, but I still think Hercules is a rip-off. UW and CW Devastator scales WAY better with Masterpiece figures than Hercules ever could, cuz he's too damn small (And more expensive). The least expensive price I've seen for Hercules is $449.95, and he's not even g1 accurate. If you want g1 accuracy, go with UW or CW Devastator. Again, something that's like half the size of $200.00 UW Devy is double the price at about $400.00 with less accuracy to the look of him in fiction, and that's worth it? Again, Masterpieces are meant to be in scale with this guy, and Hercules is too small for that. I'm not gonna stop you obviously from getting Hercules, but that's just my thoughts on it.

Scale was never consistent in the original cartoon, but this titan class Devastator is actually much closer to the correct size compared with the Classics figures released to this point than any of the other Combiner Wars/Unite Warriors combiners, which are actually undersized compared to the rest of the Classics line.

Thats right, yes, they are underzised because in the cartoon, the combiner was always bigger than the sum of his parts, which understandably cannot happen with toy. So in combined form, Devastator is far more in scale but of course the individual constructicons are a bit too big.

Ok, I have a question about this toy. Hasbro's version has a few less pieces to reduce cost and I am wondering now if they had released this unite warriors version as an exclusive retail edition (TRU for instance) charging 180$ and another more wide releases of the standard version at the same price (159$), what would everyone here have chosen? My question is deep down, if both were presented to you and you didnt have to go out of your way to get it, but one was 20$* more than the other, would any of you have preffered saving that extra 20$?

*I think 20$ is a more than fair enough estimate for the mark up to counter any added cost by Hasbro, especially when Takara incurred a higher production cost than Hasbro but still sold it at a similar price (using the same currency) in their own market.

If I could grab one at tru, I'd definitely get the UW version - easy answer, just for the sheer improved design of the figure.

Comes down to availability for me.

For once, I KNEW I could get this figure semi-locally (as in an hours drive away). If both were available semi-locally? Again, comes down to the combined form. And both look fine to me.

So either or I guess.

I’m not into Masterpiece scale. I do CHUG scale so Im good with this:

Obviously some here do not share my opinions. To each their own. But Im very happy with my Hercules. While Hasbro’s mold might be more cartoon accurate aesthetically, the scale harmony with other existing figures just isn’t there. Scale is worth every penny to me.

Honestly, I love the individual Constructicons so much that I'm going to give them their own shelf, with them performing their building functions in a diorama.

I really like the look of Scavenger (the excavator); so much so, that, if he had been released individually, I would have just gotten him, and left the rest of devastator...

I dont have any issues with Scrapper though and that piece never came off. The way I undo his elbow is I apply pressure where it is needed and keep a finger over the opposite side. It both makes it easier to undo and nothing comes off.

Yeah, I was very weary when bending Scrapper's elbows: cautiously popped them open using a flathead screwdriver in the end! I might gently sand down the 'nub' (technical term...) so I don't feel like I'm putting too much pressure on the - rather thin-looking - mushroom peg!

Let's keep it about Unite Warriors.

Yes yes yes and YES!!!!!! Talk Devstar! Not pseudo modding, that be Burn job but this is like clockwork every quarter of month calling attention to self when no one care.

No talky about the quadrillionth time how bad Hb is or how great 3rd party product is,how you not going to buy this and Masterpiece (oops..........wrong thread) if you no likey no speaky. Let's talky about Devstar or the other thread Hb Devastator. The mold everyone but me (still waiting for the delivery) is enjoying this Christmas!

Ah, who am I kidding - I'm going to be transforming them back and forth.

Same here, which of the individual figures do you like best?

I really like the look of Scavenger (the excavator); so much so, that, if he had been released individually, I would have just gotten him, and left the rest of devastator...

Definitely Scrapper. He's always been my favorite of the group. And from the looks of things, he's got some pretty decent poseability.

Yeah, the best fig of the year for me has gotta be legends class Shockwave (yeah, I'm gonna be that guy ;) )

I'm gonna chime in there: best figure of the year would have to be CW Rook. I cannot count Shockwave considering he is 2016, but Rook to me is the best of the best. Devy in combined mode would be top 5 though, along with Air Raid :BOT:
