There was also Thrilling 30 Gears back in 2014.Roadbuster wrote:Would this be his first new figure since the original?

I hope they either change that, or do a 2-pack of him and Brawn with clear windows. If not, hopefully it won't be too bad to kitbash... At least we're finally getting him, and he's better than the T30 version.
Gods am I looking forward to Origins Wheeljack. The Origins figures have been a very very delicious treat. And I still hope they use the Origins thing as a vector for really releasing SIEGE Starscream.

Swerve would be the obvious choice, though I could possibly see Small Foot or Jipe in a Selects release or part of some multipack.

As someone who absolutely hates clear moving parts I am so happy to see opaque windows on this figure. Frankly I don't like clear windows to begin with, I don't need to see a bunch of robot parts on the inside. If they aren't going to sculpt an interior then clear windows are pointless.

Yeah, as soon as I saw this I was trying to figure out if his big noggin was an essential part for the truck mode and it doesn't appear to be so Swerve should be a shoo-in. I know Swerve usually has the big built up parts on each side of his head, I just hope this mold doesn't require them be actually part of his head. Only issue I really see is Swerve's character design includes the wheels where Gears' removes them. Not sure how they'd work around that if at all.

How come? For once, Hasbro won't force clear plastics. No weak points, no colors mismatch. Regardless, if that baby-blue is too plain for the windows, there will be the inevitable Reprolabels set that will make them more fancy looking.
On my end, this Gears is a sure buy.

I am a fan of the original TF animated series. However…that being said, I am not (like many fans) looking to complete a modern equivalence of the 1984-1986 toy line/animated series. What you see in my signature, that’s it. THOSE are the holes in my collection. Nevertheless, if something comes along that seems interesting enough, I'll get it. The Armorizer TF’s for this year seem to fit that description.
I also appreciate that the entirety of Legacy (from 2022-2024) is celebrating the NOW 40 year history of the franchise. There seems to be something for everyone, and more is coming, and I personally think that is great.
Now…all that having been said… I think it’s truly fascinating how a single toy like Gears can generate more excitement than seemingly the entirety of Legacy United Wave 1 which (for better or worse) had no OG series characters in it. I mean Gears (along with Huffer) were the characters Nobody liked as a kid in the 80’s. Sure some had the toys, but I can guarantee you NO-BO-DY liked Gears. My memory may be getting spotty in some areas, but that sentiment I know to be true. But, because this is the first solid interpretation of this character since the original (not discounting the 2014 toy, it was just stylized for the then current fiction), it is filling a much-needed hole in many fans collections (ironically not my own however, because as stated earlier, my collection is a very specific type). I predict that as soon as this becomes available for pre-order. It will sell out very quickly on all online retailers, within a few hours (except perhaps Amazon).
So please, don’t take this as me berating, or looking down on all “non G1” toys or characters. I enjoy many of them and have them in my collection. It’s just an observation I happen to find really fascinating.

Still, not high on my want list and would have gotten far more excited over Powerglide!

So, I think I can actually explain this.
1) we are on a forum, same as TFW, same as other TF sites. Forums have become a more outdated source of online community, even if they are still used and are useful. And as a result, a majority of forum users tend to be people who have been online long enough to have been part of them when they were still the main thing. In simpler terms: a majority tend to hedge more towards middle age. Younger onliners tend to hedge towards reddit, twitter, etc.
2) as a result of point 1, excitement tends towards a middle-aged demographic, which for us more hedges towards G1 and maybe Beast Wars. My age demographic for instance should hedge towards Unicron trilogy, but actually hedges towards movi/Animated/Prime, my main timeline.
3) Gears was on the Kingdom art, he was for the line, and was cancelled. This is one of those cases where a cancelled figure actually ends up coming out years later, a rarity, hence additional interest from multiple demographics. In a similar vein, if say Animated Marauder Megatron was somehow actually released today, it would be a huge deal for all sorts of people, even if they aren't a big Animated fan.
4) Gears is a case of being one of the few needed to complete a cast in the same design era/style. For many of the Legacy lines outside of Beast Wars, they are starting anew with a new design team, so it's naturally a little harder/more limiting when you have smaller numbers. Many are starting new; Gears is nearing the end of another group.
5) There was no "G1 universe" figure in united wave 1, so it's also a case of some excitement for having one in the next wave.
Just my observation as well. Being part of 3 different TF communities (seibertron, Twitter, in-person friend groups), you notice some of this as well, including the diverse range of excitement. I have one buddy for instance who loves Gears because he collects almost exclusively in the 84-86 range, plus a love of RiD2001. I have another who is indifferent, because he is a Soundwave lover of all shapes and sizes, and cares little outside of that and the Prime show. Another buddy yet is a lover of Diaclone and things that scale with 3-3/4" figures, so he is also a case of "cool", but indifferent. Just as a for-instance.

You should specify that a bit. Nobody liked cartoon Gears. For me, as a Marvel G1 fan, he's 1 of my favorite characters, just based on his 1 starring role in issue #3, which guest-starred Spider-Man.o.supreme wrote:NO-BO-DY liked Gears
I had and liked the T30 version, but I always thought Gears should have been bigger. So I'm very happy with this new release. It would have been amazing (no pun intended) if we got a small Spider-Man figure to go with him. I would have paid voyager price for that.
Gears will be very much welcome in my collection, a proper deluxe has been a long time coming.

Which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Think about how many people were unhappy that the initial Legacy Animated figures had been stripped of some (to a lot) their original design elements... A lot of people have preferred the SS versions over the mainline versions of the RotB characters...
Look at the newer (if not newest) line of MotU figures (Filmation)-- Most of those are easily the most screen-accurate versions to date. A couple may be debatable, but the intent was to make them as cartoon-accurate as possible.
Companies have come to realize that the collector consumer group will dish-out money for products that are closely visually aligned with the corresponding original cartoon shows (or movies).
I didn't love Gears. It's the appearance of this new version that makes it an instant preorder for me. Even if I wasn't skipping 90+% of Legacy United (but I gladly will), I'd be getting this figure.

I'm not feeling Hound at all and he's bene my most wanted for ages, well ever since 2019 when I got back into buying them.
But out of all the rumors, I've not heard anything that really interests me for 2024. Which is unfortunate because 2023 wasn't filled with greatness terms of what I focus on either. Outside of Brawn, Cosmos and Origins Jazz it was a fairly slow uneventful year for me.

The alt mode looks mis-transformed. The tires are definitely not flush to the wheel wells. I hope in the final version you can hinge them deeper than the photo seems to indicate...

Of course, this is to be taken with a grain of salt as there is no solid proof of this aside from the leaker's record which is 50/50. Of course, this will give us an idea of how reliable leaks are.

Over the last 3 years Hasbro have done everything they can to steer people to their direct sales channel and away from established independent retailers. In trying to do this they have managed to flood the market with products that people either don't want or just don't want in the quantity they think they do ignoring all advice and feedback from fans and stores alike.
Transformers Titan Class figures have increased slowly in price with Tidal Wave coming in at a suggested retail price of £219.99.
Hasbro want you to pre-order this item in abundance because we are ''fans'' and in their eyes fairly gullible because the last few releases
Black Zarak
Cybertron Metroplex
Decepticon Nemesis
The Ark
Autobot Guardian
have all appeared at half price or less in under 6 months of their initial release with Black Zarak being as low as £69.99 from the Entertainer.
Vote with your wallets, don't give Hasbro the satisfaction of continually preying on your support for an intellectual property you love.
We won't be pre-selling Tidal Wave, if it's available at clearance which is highly likely then we will carry it and bring it to you guys at a reasonable price whilst saving you the pain of finding it on Pulse for next to nothing in a few months.
Hasbro thought we were going to be able to presell 200 units of Tidal Wave to you guys even though we communicated the last 2 releases were horrendously overpriced with little to no interest outside of completist collectors.
It's fair for a company like Hasbro to want your money, what isn't fair is the continual abuse of fans goodwill.
Enough is enough!

This is based on an image seen but not shared. The upcoming figure is said to just be a blue redeco of Animated Prowl with a head resembling previous Chromia heads.

Not really.
The original Animated Prowl was thin and slender, while the Legacy one is more stocky and "thick". A simple head-swap on the ORIGINAL Animated Prowl could work to make a fembot, despite the tiny hips. Really not so on Legacy Prowl.
Also, just compare Legacy Prime Arcee with her original design. It's night and day.

Damn, that's a rather scathing and incredibly misguided comment from a toy retailer. Surely they must understand it's those full price pre-orders and release sales that pay for these to be produced. Them saying not to pre-order because it's definitely going to be on clearance later isn't going to tell Hasbro (and more importantly the retailers which is where Hasbro directly gets their money from, not customer sales) these cost too much, it's going to tell them people have lost interest and not to make / stock them anymore. Stuff like this depends on early adopters. That doesn't mean everyone that wants to see more like this has to buy right now, it just means a substantial number still needs to.

Also, it's not guaranteed that the year's Titan will be quickly clearanced. It was true for the Ark and Cyber Metroplex, but so far, the Nemesis remains constantly at full price and is still selling well.
Was it less produced than the previous two?
Or is the Nemesis simply cooler?

Going by some discussion I saw on Twitter regarding this, for the last several titans, they have sold very little stock at full retail for titans, instead being required to adopt and match sales prices and losing money on the titan class in general. Black Zarak appears to have been the biggest offender

As for Tidal Wave. I put it in my Amazon cart, but haven't made the Pre-Order. Unlike Past Years, I'm not sure how my finances will be in July, so I figure if it goes out of stock, it will probably come back at some point.
on a different note...Titans are really unpredictable. Cybertron Metroplex you can still get for nearly 50% (Amazon has it right no for $119). But The Nemesis is going for at a minimum $250 (I've seen as high as $400) on the secondary market, nobody has it in stock for normal retail. Glad I got that one right away. I know Tidal Wave is a must have for Armada fans, but I guess the question really is...how many are there? Of course Hasbro/TT could have produced less based on past years, but I guess we wont know for several months.

In Wave 1, when Legacy was doing more significant G1-ifying of non-G1 characters (Like Knock Out and Bulkhead), I always thought the Autobot Ark might be used as a retool for Tidal Wave, given the similar-ish head sculpt and cannons.
Obviously, from Wave 2 onward Legacy started making more faithful representations of non-G1 characters, and now we have a very accurate Tidal Wave. But I still wonder if that was originally an idea they had or if they always planned to make an Armada-faithful Tidal Wave.

It was only the TF: Prime and Animated characters (and, bafflingly, Cyberverse Shadow Striker) that they really G1-ified, because of how heavily stylized their original aesthetics were. The Unicron Trilogy designs were always much closer to the blocky G1 aesthetic, so they never needed to be redesigned to the same extent as the Prime/Animated designs.#1 Signal Lancer fan wrote:o.supreme wrote:We know the designers really try to envision multiple uses for every newly tooled toy that comes out, but some of them dont make it. They completely dropped the ball on Prime, yet they knock it out of the park for Animated.
Lessons learned I guess?
So, if they go back to Prime at some point, will they succeed? Appart for the excellent Skyquake and Dreadwing, of course.
