I feel like we have moved from rock opera to soap opera.
Maybe it's just me.
Or in the spirit of what I'm saying, "It isn't you, it's me."

At the same time, some characters have really taken the backburner for season 2. Swerve, Tailgate and Whirl really haven't felt like they have done much, so I am ok with them being brought back in. I like em!

Yet Swerve got an entire issue revolving around him, did a bunch of openings, tailgate was everywhere in elegant Chaos as well as having a lot of time centered around him with this "love triangle" through out the past year and half and Whirl too was all over in elegant chaos as well as being one of the most important characters in the series with saving megatrons life. How can you say those three haven't had much time?

Well that's the point right now for whatever reason they are trying to make Getaway look like a creep right now.
Wait I thought you had nothing to do with anything beyond 1985.

But Chromedome has been looking like a pedophiliac for a long time now. This book would be so much better if it were written by one of the season 1 guys or Ron Friedman. We definitely wouldn't be having this conversation now.

Oh, 1984forever, you never change.
Though I do find that Chromedome and Rewind have become a lot more one-note this season, primarily known as "the two that are a couple", ESPECIALLY Chromedome.

I'll still buy MTMTE for the non drama bits, but it's getting a bit annoying.

You mean Rewind right?
Rewind is actually older then Chromedome and what do you expect from someone who turned into a cassette some people are just short it's not pedophilia.
I can also guarantee you the season 1 guys would not make the comics better Season 1 of the Transformers was pretty bland and boring most of the good things from the cartoon came from season 2.
Ron Friedman is not that great either.

Romance is hardly the spotlight in MTMTE their only side stories.

I honestly don't know what's going on with this rag. First it's that Constructicon Scavenger's entire fan club deciding to ride My Little Ponies into battle instead of using their alt modes.... and then next we get a peek inside mini Fort Max's shuttle and discover that he is an avid plush toy collector. Now with this ish we get an Archie comic with a Transformers logo on it. Hasbro needs to pull this license quick!

Wat?
The only one of those I have ever heard of was the Archie cover which is only an alternate cover celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Archie comics its not canon get over it comics do it all the time.
Why would any of that merit Hasbro pulling their licence when they encourage that behavior?
Look I don't think Transformers is your thing anymore the original cartoon ended a long time ago and Hasbro is moving on like everyone else.

They have had their bits, but at least to start with, Megatron took all center stage. Up until issue 35 it was really all Megs and little bits of other things (now i get why and i very much enjoyed it, bu still) and then while Whirl and Tailgate were prevalent, they sort of passed back into the back once the time trip was over. And then yes Swerve had an issue to himself (which i loved) and that was pretty much it. i do enjoy the Swerve recaps though.
All in all though, Megs, Chromedome, Brainstorm and Nautica have taken the larger stage. Which like I said i don't mind, but I'd prefer others getting more time too. Ole Highbrow, Blaster and Hound are bridge crew and yet they get really no time, so it'd just be a matter of more character diversity. And I also wish we would find out who Whirl was talking to in issue 28.

Now for the preview, I think it's interesting that we get these glimpses into the culture of the cybertonains and what their like in the downtime. While I wish other characters could get a focus, I am interested in what route Roberts is taking here.

I certainly think it's hard when all that's in the preview is this and no hints towards other goodness. I'm a bit over the relationship thing, prefer to see more familial relationships explored like spark brothers, split sparks, shared sparks, etc. it does at times feel a little over the top and In our face. I too have been enjoying the main Transformers series more lately... The art has been better, the themes have been far reaching, and the character development is less focused on finding your conjux.
Still reading, and enjoying parts of it, but grimacing and feeling somewhat uncomfortable when scenes like this pop up.
How does Getaway drink? I know his faceplate probably goes away, but he's drinking and talking, nursing his drink, and his faceplate is closed.... Anyway...

Of course, this all could have a deeper purpose. We could be thinking that all this is is a love triangle but instead we find out that something else is going on.

He might drink like Brainstorm, through a hole in his arm. It might be a common thing for faceplate wearers.

Yes. But we are talking about a story. The romance genre is simply not one I like reading. Romance is fine, but I don't want to read a story where it is the only focus.
I think MTMTE plays the balance well I just don't want the book to become a one niche wonder.

Just thought of this: When Tailgate eats and drinks, that little spot on the bottom of his faceplate actually opens so he can access his mouth and Getaway has that same spot. that's how he drinks

I never liked the visor/faceplate look. It's boring and half this cast carry the look.
I'd also rather see characters like Siren and Hound developed than the likes of Nautica and Rung both of whom I find uninteresting.
Pity they killed off poor old Trailbreaker.

Season 1 was sensational and Season 2, following the Dark Cybertron mess, started quite strongly too. Since then, I can feel my patience wearing thin waiting for developments in the series' myriad, static plotlines.
Previously I had championed Roberts' placement of character above all else. However I couldn't help but laugh when I noticed my cheer at the first punch in an absolute AGE being thrown last issue; it occurred to me that I was either turning into a troglodyte or I had become somewhat bored. Maybe both.
Posted by Counterpunch on November 12th, 2015 @ 10:31am CST
With an active plot and monthly story, writers and readers have the opportunity to listen to one another about what is working or isn't, or why something was done or wasn't.
I for one was glad to see that it wasn't just me feeling like the plot was going off track or stagnating.
I usually only notice these things in retrospect when I'm reading the trades and a particular volume drags on or I don't go back to re-read it.

I think we need to consider the whole aspect of transformers as a whole: They change. Transformers change shape, shift from one mode to another. they need to change. Change enables them to survive and thrive. I am a fan of many different transformers families since they all bring something different and unique to the table, some more than others.
This is a transformers book for a different age and audience, and it will change down the road too. there will be a completely different feel for them in 10 years. You just have to go with it. the original will always be the origin, but things need to grow off it, and as seen, many do enjoy the growth and the change. It keeps things interesting

In the comic, they canonically they had no gender. I know people didn't that storyline, but Arcee was an experiment in adding that concept into their species (which in my opinion was Furman over thinking it). The reason we say 'He' or 'She' regarding robots, is cos we're humans that need a familiar word to give to our fictional characters/cars/boats/guns. It's either that or call them 'it'.
There's nothing wrong with having boy/girl looking mechanoids in fiction. Other franchises do and just get on with it. I just think it's really funny that there are people upset/super excited about the 'gay transformers', that canon wise have neither gender or sexual orientation.
Aide from all that though, there's still no excuse for 'shipping. That's what Deviantart's for

Jokes aside, shipping and the like is usually more of a fan thing, pairing up personally preferred couples and what not.
Now, creating subplots that seem to court and encourage that shipping community? MTMTE is most certainly guilty of that.

Some Transformers have exhibited mature personality traits minutes after being created. Some like G1 Hot Rod act like teenagers. Others act like children, such as G1 Wheelie. It would have been seen as inappropriate if Wheelie replaced Springer as Arcee's "love" interest.
Tailgate has a childlike personality. I find it inappropriate for him to be in relationships with Transformers that are depicted as older and more mature.
Parents like myself may become concerned that their children don't fully understand metaphors. That misunderstanding could be bad for Hasbro during the holiday season.

Issue 21: Tailgate was only a few weeks old when he fell down in the whole. read.
Fact: That was 6 million years ago. He is very old. Does it matter that he was underground for the entire time? Yeah, hence why he needs to learn everything. And he is maturing. He is a hero for his skills he learned. He is not the child you keep playing him off to be. He may be immature, but he is not a child.
And do you think children could see this as bad? To them, it seems as though Tailgate is finding a best friend in Cyclonus as the new kid in school (I have an 8 year old cousin who reads the comics too: those were his exact words) You really just need to stop trying to make a pediphillic situation out of this. It is a principle of competing love interests and jealousy, not pedophiles. Getaway may be trying to take Tailgate, but it is not like he is taking a minor
