Also, we have our first preorder for this set and the price is a bit higher than aticipated. Robot Kingdom has it up for US$84.90, and they usually sell for the cheapest price to make up for the higher shipping. The pre-order states that the release is aticipated o be March 2016.

Hey my fave Minicon I have that on my shelf sitting with my only other Transformers not put away in storage.

Small list includes: Every use of the Hardtop mold, Classic's Optimus Prime, Generations Orion Pax, Springer, Sandstorm, Power core Combiners Smolder and Chopster and finally Combiner Wars Blackjack and Battle core Optimus Prime.

I gots Rodimus from the RTS Cyclonus/Rodimus 2-pack. I have RTS Wreck Gar. I have RTS Junkheap.

That makes this box set an easy pass. Boom, I save quite the wad of cash...

To clarify things: the yellow one shown is actually PCC Mini-Con Pinpoint, the mold used by TakaraTomy to represent Firebolt. Here's the catch: technically speaking, it's Prime Firebolt, since it was released twice as an Arms Micron giveaway, part of the Japanese Prime line: in grey, and in the original translucent yellow (so one could repurpose PCC Pinpoint as Firebolt, if one's PCC Leadfoot breaks... *sob*). Later still, he was released with United Artfire with the grey and black reversed as Sparks, an alias of G1 Firebolt:

Image

In a nutshell:

Hasbro
Power Core Combiners Pinpoint (???): translucent yellow

TakaraTomy
Arms Micron Firebolt (Prime): grey
Arms Micron Firebolt Clear Yellow ver. (Prime): translucent yellow
United Sparks (G1): black

Yeah, the hinge joint for the shoulder broke on mine. I have really rotten luck with PCC figures: Skyburst's ball joints are fragile and have broken off, Searchlight's and Huffer's shoulders have cracked, and Sledge has also bitten the dust... It has gotten to the point I'm paranoid about ball joints cracking and breaking, when I saw a couple more on my other figures... :BOOM:

O well, raw material for future customs I suppose...

Yeah I have had bad luck as well the only figure that isn't a minicon or fake limb that still remains together is my Smolder I love that little mold.

Back to Wreck-Gar, the handle bars and hands are common breakage points due to design. The former, as explained before, is seemingly fixed with a mold tweek by TakaraTomy (still be careful), but the hands... Fixed open hands are seemingly fragile with any figure, look at Animated Arcee and RTS Laser Optimus Prime.

The only thing this Hot Rod release has going for him, IMO, is the return of the translucent blue plastic for his windshield and windows. Other than that, the deco is really off. No orange hood at least? I would forgive the gang-molded yellow thighs, but come on, Hasbro, you got it right once, remember? The "Challenge at Cybertron"/"Battle in Space" sets were pretty spot on. The opaque, blue painted windshield and windows were a bummer, but are hidden well enough in robot mode. I'm not sure what Hasbro was trying to go with this time.

Whoa, hold on there, you may still be in luck, as TT is doing something for the 20th ann., we just don't know what it is, but MP Optimus Primal is leading off that celebration.

But I do agree with your sentiment, as that is how I've felt through a decade of generations waiting for updates to UT figures I wanted to like, but had to pass on (armada megs, super-mode o/p, tidalwave - give them proper articulation dammit - I would buy them all)

his point is valid, a vast amount of fans grew up with something that came after G1, yet for the past decade had nothing but G1 figures shoved down our throats. Now a big anniversary comes along, and hasbro blows it off to glorify the G1 movie, yeah I'm feeling the snub and so are many others.

Also about this Beast Wars and the other series ended a long time ago their time has passed so why should Hasbro make an entire new toyline for a series not relevant anymore.

Last I checked the beast mode Transformers released in Generations did not sale as much as the other generations not saying they had poor sales but there is less of an appeal to the kids with Beastformers then normal Transformers.

Might be bias here since I never liked organic looking Beastformers although the Beast Wars show is ok not great but ok.

And the movies are never relevant outside of their movie years so it's just as disposable as the rest.

To be fair the G1 movie is more relevant and remembered then Beast Wars outside the fandom.

The movie does deserve to be on top when it comes to recognition compared to Beast wars.

Hyperbole or not it's a terrible thing to say I would say a comparison but I'm trying not to break rules or anything like that anymore.

It's really the IDW comics that people are paying attention too plus it helps that Generations have better toys compared to the recent movie and tv show lines.

So have you not noticed the generations line for the last decade is based on an older and even less relevant show

And to be fair, I saw as many or more whirls warming shelves than rhinox, and even more non-beast-formers warm shelves longer than the 3 times I saw rattrap; and if you're referring to the beasthunters line, you may be onto something, but they dragon figures moved pretty swiftly in my area :-?

I'm fairly sure Hasbro is expecting kids to be more interested in Rescue Bots or Robots in Disguise, and have said so during various presentations at SDCC, Botcon, and other events.

Because it's less G1 based and more IDW based which is based on G1.

regardless what I'm trying to say is that Generations have hardly anything to do with the G1 cartoon.

Regardless G1 was first usually the things that were first are more beloved and remembered just like Star Wars for example.

Only due to a vicious cycle in which they're reran and rehashed to justify their own dominance while everything else gets deliberately ignored so it won't get in the way of the 80's retreads. Even in the stuff meant to be separate from G1, we often get several characters designed as clear G1 retreads. They don't put Beast Wars back on TV, and they only reran Animated on the Hub briefly, but heaven forbid the G1 reruns stop flowing. The comics are all G1 comics starring mostly G1 characters, with a handful of IDW-continuity originals.

So if I seem bitter when I get told off for thinking Beast Wars has a place, maybe I have a reason to be.

What you would label a vicious cycle, others would label virtuous.

No one said Beast Wars doesn't have a place. It has a very prominent place - I love Beast Wars (and several other things that aren't G1 related). But when you get down to it, G1 is more iconic in nearly every way.

It sure doesn't feel prominent. I see it getting buried. There's already plenty of G1 every year. It's the 20th anniversary of Beast Wars. Is it wrong to want them to show it some love since it's a special occasion?

Well, yes, apparently so, but I don't get why it should be.

This. Exactly this.

Hasbro isn't stupid, they know nostalgia sells. Just like in 2006/2007 when Hasbro was pushing Classics hard they knew their target audience were then in their mid 20s, likely out of college and had some disposable income to buy G1 based collectibles. In 2016 the same is true, the younger kids that were watching Beast Wars in the mid 90s are now in their mid 20s with some spending money and collecting things has really become popular making this the perfect time to push BW.

Let's face it, we don't really know what Hasbro has planned this year. Everyone says they're passing on BW and going for just the Movie anniversary, but so far we've only seen one release from each so who's to say exactly what is going on? Really the only things that have been announced for later in the year is a few Titans Return figures. It is much too premature to say they're absolutely doing nothing for Beast Wars this year beyond zodiac Primal. Let's wait until after BotCon before we can say anything for sure.

Going back to the box set, maybe it's just me but that loose Hot Rod looks like it has a metallic coating on just the hood and roof.

No, thats Fun Pub, and only available at botcon or if you are a member of the TF Club. You wont find it in stores, and plus we knew of this figure for months.

Hasbro did say in an interview that they would honour the BW anniversary through the platinum line and with the help of Fun Pub. Both of these statements have come to fruition. While I would want more than that, I am ok with Takara handling the 20th anniversary instead. Afterall, Hasbro gave us a way better BW 10th anniversary than it did the 20th anniversary of G1. And for the 30th anviersary of G1, they gave us 3 geat Beast Wars toys. So Beast Wars is always honoured here and there.

It's like Valentine's day. Why make that the only day of the year to be sweet to your oved one when you can show appreciation all throughout the year? Hasbro has been good to Beast Wars before, honouring it here and there with no need of an aniversary ad I like it even better that way.

I look forward to having more Junkions. Surprised they haven't milked this mold even moreso than they have. Isn't this the first non-TFCC US release of the Scrapheap head mold?

Yup, making this the first full on Hasbro release.

But the 2004 was chock full of stuff that honored G1 from Hasbro: Hasbro's release of MP-1 Convoy, the Commemorative Series G1 reissue line, the Alternators line, and several awesome G1-inspired toys in the Energon line (among some inferior Energon toys, but those were far and few compared to the good ones). About the only thing Hasbro had going in 2004 that didn't celebrate the anniversary was the first Universe line and the Playskool Go-Bots line.

But it wasnt an outright anniversary. The energon line didnt have stickers highlighting the anniversary, for example. It was just a show line.

It was an anniversary in spirit. Why else would the Energon line contain so many specifically-G1 homages within itself when this was an age where Hasbro didn't pay homage to G1 in any of its main lines?

Well then wouldnt that be the line to be against, instead of classics, for the state in which we are now?

It homaged G1 without being G1, Classics was G1 in updated form.

But Prime, RID, the movies, Animated, all of those are homages to G1 rather than being G1 in update form. And that started with Energon, no?

EDIT: Na, I take that back, G2 is the first time we had G1 in updated forms.

Yeah, and G2 was the line that nearly killed the brand.

But all those other lines you mentioned were post-Classics, when G1's resurgence was in full swing. Energon's homages may have been evocative of G1, but for the most part they weren't nearly as on the mark as the homages and direct updates that would come later in future lines.

Haha, yeah. But you know why its high right? Its because its a retail exclusive in the states. Look at how much they sold last year's platinums compared to the actual retailers.

I mean look at how much they are still charging for that seeker set: http://tfsource.com/platinum/seeker-set/

Not a terrible price, but still above retail. And remember, they were selling Platinum Trypticon for 200$.
