It's not like Hasbro and Takara haven't already given us four "inner robot included" Ultra Magnus options for us to pick from in the last five years, those being Siege, Netflix, Premium Finish, and Kingdom.

Nova Prime is good. Ultra Magnus is great. The rest's a no because of my shelf space limitations.

I have Siege Ultra Magnus and I still like it... So I guess I'll have to repaint it into Delta Magnus so I can justify getting the new UM... when it goes on sale. I don't think it commands the, ahem, Commander class price. Especially after Hasbro came up with Armada OP & Motormaster recently. If Hasbro can figure out getting an inner bot out of the cab (I know, I know... it's not movie/toon accurate, but I'm looking at it from an engineering/plastic/part count v Price point perspective), then it's worth the full price.

or they could have played loose and fast with studio series as they sometimes do, and included a deluxe of the car/robot that came with the original diaclone toy.

Yeah, but all of them had the wrong alt mode, they were something new, not the original. This was their chance to do things right, make a perfect Ultra Magnus that's cartoon accurate in both modes and still have the white Prime mode. Instead they went with a mini version of the Masterpiece, but not even a particularly great one, and made the robot mode oversized for no real reason and yet his alt mode doesn't seem quite right.

Dunno, siege was always vastly undersized and needed the third party add ons to make him proportionate. In that photo the cabs rear wheels look more bent outwards than motormasters :( hope it doesnt have QC issues right out of the box.

Imho the commander class are figures they can sell for 45 and make profit on like they did with the first three, so I dont expect them to be all singing and dancing for the price. The problem with that is when they sell them for double that to offset losses or maximise profits.

Only one's I'm really looking forward to are Frenzy and Nightbird. Noah is kind of cool but I'm on the fence since I don't see a Human head anywhere.

Magnus, not really feeling it just from those images alone. A definite wait an see, and a maybe.
Already have a sufficient Ratchet but he does look good.

I do like the Stranger Things Crossover Code Red though! The rest are of no interest to me.
I'd like to know the status of the War Dawn 2-pk. And I'm still hoping for a Powerglide reveal!

The more I look at Magnus pics the more inclined I feel to get him. I do agree that making him big just to be big is a bit of a thumbs down for peeps - and while I'm not a scale nut nor a 'toon accuracy fan - I'm guessing they did so because UM was a big pretty big lad in the cartoon (when drawn correctly, or if you wanna reenact the scene where he smashed his Constructicon figures together!).
I also agree it feels a bit weird we're not getting something commander class for the movieverse instead, whether it's something else from RotB (like Stratosphere) or earlier films (maybe something like TLK Onslaught? Coulda chucked in Mohawk with him too to "fit the budget" of commander class.)
But oh well, more G1.
At least this UM will have better articulation than the Siege mold, eh?

Magnus is a complete and utter waste.

Dude has gotten 5 toys of Leader class or larger in the past 10 years, and he has gotten 4 in the past 5 years.

His latest toy was only 2 years ago.

He is completely redundant, and he takes away a slot in a size class that is finally granted to SS.

That slot should have been Stratosphere. He would've released with his movie brothers and sisters too. The timing was perfect.

Ultra Magnus is a toy that should have been pushed 2-3 years out.

Yeah, as much as I personally think the Magnus figure looks good, I feel like they could've maybe kept it on hold for a little longer. I'm sure fans and kids would've liked to get even more toys of the cool big metal guys they saw on the big screen pretty recently.
I honestly would've been happy with something past movieverse too but it would've made more sense if it was Stratosphere instead.

If they hadn't released Magnus, there wouldn't be a movieverse Commander instead; there just wouldn't be an SS Commander class at all. Honestly, now that they have one, they're probably more likely to do those other Commanders than they were before.

Stratosphere could easily have been the first. They have been talking about movie commanders since 2019, seeing as how they conceptualized Scavenger as a commander.

they could easily have done it.

This is the team catering to the plus 40 class of G1 fanboys by releasing new versions of G1 guys every 2-5 years in a circlejerk showoff.

I don't know why the Bay-fans have such a mad on for SS86. It's helped keep the line alive. They've been talking about SS Commanders for years but haven't done it, which suggests they don't have faith that they'll be successful. I'm not sure that launching the class with a character who was only in a couple minutes in the last movie would be a great idea.

Holy fucking christ, I am not saying this as a bay fan, and the character that is should have been was from the newest film that bay didn't direct!

"kept the line alive" - the line could have and should have been done by now. I don't want a perpetual line; i want one that completes what it needs to and is done.

"don't have faith that they'll be successful" - they literally put SKY LYNX into the Commander slot. they put MOTORMASTER into a commander slot. If you are under 40, you have no idea who those are unless you watched RiD2015 for Motormaster.

Statosphere is simultaneously a movie legacy character thanks to the RotF toy, and he was in the movie. You cannot get a better look than that.

And you seem to gloss completely over the fact that Magnus just got a new toy 2 YEARS AGO!!!! And before you say a thing about movie bots or whatever, Magnus has not looked like this commander on any screen since 1987. He has no fiction right now supporting his look.

It is G1 circlejerk. It's why I now hate G1. It's why I will call Hasbro out on their bullshit like this, like Ironhide, Ratchet, etc.

STOP RE-DOING A CHARACTER BECAUSE IT PREDATES 1987 EVERY 2-5 YEARS!!!!! IT IS NOT NECESSARY. THERE ARE MANY OTHER OPTIONS OUT THERE FOR YOU

Good for you, I am happy you are getting what you wanted. I am.

But we are still getting yet another G1 Magnus, who has been irrelevant for 35 years now on screen, in a $90 package, 2 years after we just got his last toy, as a $55 package.

And they completely ignored the actual big guy who was in the movie this year, and whose movie teammates are all being released this year.

I can be happy for you and still pissed off at the boomer catering that Hasbro continues to do.

Dude showed up, got tortured, did nothing, died, and then his best moment in the series was as a corpse, in a series that was basically panned and is considered one of the 3 worst TF shows ever.

can't get much more irrelevant than that.

While I am a fairly big fan Of Magnus, and certainly more than I am of Stratosphere, I very much agree with everything you said. His character has sufficiently been covered in the last five years not to need yet another release so soon, especially at a Commander price when it should have gone to almost anyone else. And being close proximity to a movie year it does make more sense for it to be Stratosphere for the simply fact you can tackle a new Ultra Magnus at any time while a movie bot does have limited window of appeal for the masses.

I don't really buy it that if it wasn't for Magnus there wouldn't even be a Commander, let alone one for ROTB. Are they really that limited to who would sell as a Commander that it has to only be G1 inspired main characters? Now I'm not really into Movie designs and do focus only on G1 but surely they can branch out a little with some of these choices.

I also don't keep up on movie releases so I don't know what all they have done other than mainly Leader Voyager DLX class. Granted Commander is a relatively new class with only 1-2 per year? So you can't really cover as much ground as you would with voyagers.

Feels weird to say Magnus has to be the one to spearhead the commander class for studio series, in my opinion
I thought it was pretty awesome that Devastator spearheaded the introduction of combiners to studio series, and while that was done gradually, I think it shows they have faith letting a movieverse bot do such a thing, and Stratosphere from their Brand Spanking New Movie would've been a good choice instead.
They'll probably end up announcing Stratosphere after this anyway, and hey, maybe it might end up like the Hound/Detritus situation where Stratosphere could end up releasing first! ;)

Aren't boomers generally the people that actually voiced g1? Hahahah so with that misconception corrected arguably it is the siege and all the retools that have been an utter waste, especially that netflix one (except that some kids and adults will have had fun playing with those figures).
As for a waste of an assigned figure over a non character like rotb stratosphere (who would make for a cool toy with a different head) the commander class might have been from the games. Magnus is just opening the doors, Rodimus was thought to be a waste of commander class but if there is more of them to come then it matters not.

There's also the fact that this toy likely won't be released until next year, the year of the brand's 40th anniversary, which this toy was likely made at all in order to help celebrate that.

There's also the fact that this toy likely won't be released until next year, the year of the brand's 40th anniversary, which this toy was likely made at all in order to help celebrate that.

Haha yeah, that's why I joked about us probably having a Hound/Detritus moment where Stratosphere could very well be released earlier anyway!

Nothing Studio Series interests me except Rumble.
Shocked by everything in that SG box except Rodimus, I was already gonna grab Rodimus but now I'm even more excited.
Gonna have to grab Pulsecon Hot Shot just for Jolt, I guess I'll use him as Excellion.
Nova Prime isn't my thing, but he looks cool and I know people have been hoping for him for a while.
Already own the only Stunticon I wanted.
Nacelle and the sniper girls pack will be mine...tomorrow, because I know I'll have gift cards I can utilize.

Magnus is supposed to release in the same SS wave as everything else they revealed, which is the Fall-Winter wave of this year, not next year. His (unlabeled) listing leaked at the same time as the (also unlabeled) listings for Nemesis and Armada Prime.

Unless you guys already know that and you're just saying you don't expect him to release on time?

Dunno, siege was always vastly undersized and needed the third party add ons to make him proportionate.

Half disagree and half "that's my point". Making the Siege mold taller was a small matter of taste, but I'm pretty sure it didn't make him taller than SS86 Grimlock like the new Commander Class figure is. But making his bot mode a giant didn't make his alt mode function better as a car carrier, he's a little too compact. So again, what was the point? Why make his bot mode oversized and still fail to make him look like a proper car carrier? That's why I feel like they made him taller simply to be a commander, not out of any kind of accuracy which goes against the whole point of Studio Series in the first place!

That said, it IS a superior alt mode the Kingdom figure in every way. The Siege figure's alt mode is based on RID 2001 Ultra Magnus and the Kingdom figure being based on that figure also means it's basically a G1 truck with an RID 2001 trailer.

For me doing this figure so soon after the WFC mold is fine in concept, but the execution is all wrong. I don't see the bot mode as superior in any way, just the alt mode, but I don't display my figures in alt mode so I'll be sticking with the Kingdom figure. Would have made more sense to make it accurate in both modes which would mean making the bot smaller and maybe leaving some plastic behind to include the white Prime since that truck already looks like it has a fairly ridiculous number of parts. This wasn't a figure that needed to come out this year, it should have been left more time to simmer or scrapped all together since it doesn't do anything better than the Kingdom figure aside from have a better looking (but not all that functional) alt mode. There's plenty of live action or even Gamer Edition characters that could have been placed in the Studio Series Commander slot instead.

It’s been confirmed that this new Magnus is taller than the SS86 Dinobots?

Designers: “Should we give an updated modern design to other characters in beast wars, pretenders or other eras in transformers history?”

Hasbro executives: “Yes but only if we use reuse the molds from the past 3 years!! We spent our entire budget on the skids mold, the arcee mold both from WFC and Prime universe and oh let’s add a mini and blast effects to an existing deluxe to jack the price up $10-$20.”

I like how someone pointed out that in Nightbird's stock images you can see a split hinge and some stress marks around the pin on her left leg!
Guessing these early copies used for the stock photos musta been factory rejects huh?

Yeah, and it's only the stock photo. Onsite photos of the figure on display show it to have no broken antennae.

Can't wait for people to snap the antennae themselves for a "stock photo accurate" Nove Prime ;)

Just elbowing Hasbro for their usual shoddy handling, mistransforming and terrible posing of figures to their product packaging photos.

Of course the final product will be fine.... probably :HEADHURTS:

I agree Magnus' alt mode is better looking and more accurate to G1 appearance, and it's nice you can actually fit a car inside the trailer. Being as I do not display my bots in alt mode nor do I intend to fill it up with cars, it simply isn't a must have for me over the perfectly acceptable Kingdom UM.

In bot mode there isn't enough of a different to warrant the additional purchase especially at a higher price. Though I do like the legs more on Commander version.

Going by the size of the deluxe cars there, yes, he appears to be taller than Grimlock and Sludge.

I’m one who is really looking forward to this Commander Class Ultra Magnus.
Imo he’s exponentially more of an improvement/upgrade than what we got from SS86 Kup, Cliffjumper, Arcee, or even Ironhide.
Whether his height has been confirmed or not, he is a tall bot.
Not sure he should be much taller than Grimlock and the Dinobots, but there’s at least a little visual evidence around that would suggest he’s at least as tall if not taller.

I don’t think the Kingdom bot mode was all that bad. But the truck mode wasn’t great, and the trailer was horribly bad. It was incomplete, and for being an “Earth” version, it was a janky mess.
This new version has a lot going for it, even though I can totally admit the trailer isn’t quite as big as I had expected. But the proportions of everything look solid. The trailer is really pretty functional.

While I can understand why some people are mad because of this release, I don’t think Hastak is wrong or stupid for this.
As someone already pointed out, Hastak is always going to make moves that prioritize business, aka profits. I don’t think it’s a stretch or overstatement that SS86 has done well.
Multiple professionals have decided this was a good decision.
And as far as anyone claiming this caters to the 40+ years-old…
Hell yes it does. As it should.
Because I’m not the only one who is about done with buying TF forever.
If you don’t think Hastak is taking demographics and target consumers into account, and timing into account, you’re either being blinded by what you want, or you’re an idiot.
We all could legitimately complain about something, and/or play the blame game.
Everything I’ve seen for a while now has shown people who are G1 fans are relatively understanding that the franchise is branching-out.
There are more non-G1 fans whining than G1 fans whining that “Everything should be G1”.

Yeah, Companies base their moves on following the Money so they're going to try and release what nets them the most profits. I don't feel it has to do with a specific team preferring G1 at all, they don't choose what get made or when it's release, bean counters do that.

I mean I've often been frustrated at how often we see the usual suspect and commented on this very thing, and I'm a G1 fan above all else. But even I get tired of seeing constant Bumblebees on the shelf. lol

Honestly I'm gonna be picking up UM anyway. I love the Siege mold, and I love the Kingdom retool too, but funny enough I have none of them as the ultra of magnuses himself so it makes this purchase a lot easier for me. (Speaking of the Siege mold, I'm sure even HasTak is aware on how well that one sold too considering they're using it again for Nova Prime, so if you don't like the new UM just pay for the Siege mold again ;) )

Shit, I'm gonna be picking up another Ultra Magnus, aren't I? But it looks like this is the final word on the subject. He looks amazing.

Nova Prime. I have the old Maketoys 3rd party version. And this version ... just isn't doing it for me. I want to like it. I want to have an official version of this character. The 3P one is too small. But this guy is just not doing it for me. Glad they're doing an official version of him, though. Definitely deserves it.

I preordered Nacelle for the Seeker army. Even though it totally misses the point of the toy. They were too focused on the "of it's the character from the Cybertron scene in G1" and not enough of "it's the toy from the catalogue and they mixed Ramjet wings with a regular Seeker head". I get that it's IDW Nacelle. Maybe they'll make "G1 Nacelle"? But maybe G1 Sunstorm first, please?

Rumble and Ratchet - I'll preorder when I see them. It'll be that last Ratchet I get. Until the dead version, of course.
