And so it begins, the deluge of Transformers: Age of Extinction licensed product! We won't report on every napkin and toothbrush that hist the market, but we're still pretty early in the game and looking for every image we can get. Behold, the Transformers Movie Heroes 18 oz. Water Bottle, 12 oz. Acrylic Travel Cups, and Lunch Box! The water bottle features the faces of the redesigned Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, plus a look at Grimlock's Dino mode head. The Cups and Lunch Box both give us pretty good views of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee in their new bodies. Check out the images mirrored below from Entertainment Earth.
Media site The Daily Beast caught up with Mark Wahlberg to interview him on several pieces of his acting career. Of interest, included in the article is a couple snippets of his experience in Transformers: Age of Extinction. TDB: With Transformers: Age of Extinction, did you agree to do that one for your kids?
MW: Well, it was exciting because it was the first time my kids were really interested in a movie I was doing. Any time they see me with a gun, like Contraband or Pain & Gain, they want to see that, too, but they can’t because of the language and all that stuff. But I loved working with Michael Bay, and I thought he had a really interesting way to make it new, different, and fresh. Plus, being in movies that have the potential to be hugely successful allows me to make smaller movies that I’m really passionate about.
TDB: What’s going to make this Transformers different? The first one was OK, but then the sequels were a total mess.
MW: It was a tighter script, and its own stand-alone thing. I think the emotional core of it, the human element, is going to be extremely powerful. It’s an ordinary man trying to do extraordinary things to save his daughter and keep her alive—and this boyfriend he didn’t know anything about. He’d had a child when he was in high school and his wife passed away, and the promise he’d made to her was that she wouldn’t date any boys until she graduated and that she’d be at the graduation—because we weren’t due to the pregnancy. So there’s an anchor to it and a realness to it that I like a lot.
...I hurt my neck in Hong Kong, and it hasn’t gotten better yet. I just woke up in the morning and couldn’t move, but still had to shoot 10 days of crazy action."
Lucky eight-graders at Detroit's Durfee Elementary-Middle School were treated to three-minute extended clip of Michael Bay's upcoming Transformers: Age of Extinction. According to The Detroit Hub the youngsters were the winners of “Get Schooled Attendance Campaign”, a Detroit Public School wide program sponsored by Paramount. Transformers: Age of Extinction co-producer Allegra Clegg was on hand to give the kids to give a presentation, hand out hats, and show the three-minute extended clip. Congratulations to the eight-graders of Durfee Elementary-Middle School on their attendance and what was surely an awesome experience.
Through the interactive online competition students had the chance to win prizes by “checking-in” online each day. Durfee students logged the most check-ins during the two-week campaign and won the challenge. About 85 eighth graders pulled off the win out of all schools in DPS that entered.
The Durfee students were some of the first to check out a three-minute extended clip of the film before anyone, anywhere on the planet. Seeing the clip and talking with the producer was even more special because much of the movie was filmed in Detroit.

Video website M1905 has posted four more videos relating to the upcoming Transformers: Age of Extinction movie. They feature interviews with producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura, director Michael Bay and cast member Mark Wahlbergand Jack Reynor and Li Bingbing. The videos contain several spoilers about the plot, so we've picked out some of the highlights in the spoiler banners below.

Di Bonaventura mentions the connection between the military officials and government members in Beijing to the attack taking place in Hong Kong, as well as the presence of a factory in mainland China that will play a major role. He also confirmed that most of the film is set in both mainland China and Hong Kong, making it easier to work with the Chinese actors during shooting.
Bay and Wahlberg talk about the appeal of the Asian setting and reveals that Li Bingbing's character is the owner of the special factory and the addition of a scene to make the most of her fighting skills. There is also an Autobot character who speaks only in Mandarin. They also mention how Wahlberg's character Cade Yaeger and Optimus Prime really connect, as they both have to rise to an occasion bigger than themselves. Cade must make a choice to save his and his daughter's lives, similar to a scenario Optimus finds himself in.
Reynor mentions the relation between his character Shane, an Irish racecar driver (who does a lot of his own stunts), Nicola Peltz's character Tessa and Mark Wahlberg's character Cade: they are secretely dating, as Cade's wife has died and a 'no dating rule' exists in the Yaeger house - which Tessa disagrees with. He saves both characters' lives very early on in the movie, and the dynamics change throughout the film.
Thanks to this Google upload we have a nice clear look at the bladed weapon that has been seen several times on the Transformers: Age of Extinction set. The weapon has been seen being carried by both Mark Wahlberg and Jack Reynor, and may also have a ranged weapon function. This image gives us our best look to date at the mysterious weapon and all it's intricate markings. Check it out below.
IGN caught up with director Michael Bay, and has posted a brief interview regarding his upcoming Transformers: Age of Extinction. Bay says seeing how excited fans were for Universal Studios Transformers: The Ride 3D is what brought him back to direct the forth live action movie. He goes on to say this film will not contain the "goofiness" found in the previous trilogy, and describes TF:AoE as "more cinematic". However, he follows that statement up by describing Mark Wahlberg's character as a "wacky inventor".
I wanted the first [three] Transformers to be very suburban and less cool," the director told Yahoo! Movies while talking about next year's fourth Transformers installment. "This is a much more cinematic one. I focused on keeping this one slick. There won't be any goofiness in this one. We went a bit too goofy [on the last one].
A bit of an odd statement since most fans consider Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to be the least serious of the previous three films, with Transformers: Dark of the Moon [the last one] being far more ominous.
Last week we reported that Entertainment Tonight Canada would be airing an exclusive behind the scenes look at Transformers: Age of Extinction. Now, thanks to YouTube user jedz316 we have the clips, which we've embedded below. The clips are mainly interviews with stars Mark Wahlberg and Nicola Peltz, and while no new information regarding the plot is revealed, we do get some behind the scenes footage. Following up on our earlier story about "big news" from several days ago, Michael Bay confirmed on his website that the first Age of Extinction trailer will be aired during the 48th Superbowl on 2 February. Also, the director says that the five-and-a-half month-long filming is completed and ready for editing. This is what he had to say:
Michael Bay wrote:So that brings me to letting Transformers fans know that we have completed our five and half month shoot. We got back from a month long shoot in China. My crew and I had a fantastic time shooting in Hong Kong and Mainland China. It was an amazing experience, and I love the country. My cast was absolutely fantastic, and a very fun group to work with. We are working hard cutting the movie right now. I think the first piece comes out for the Super Bowl and a teaser right after that.
Courtesy of an interview on /Film.com, we now know that Transformers: Age of Extinction will be filmed in full 3D IMAX, the first movie to feature the new type of shooting. Check out the whole interview with IMAX executives here, and check out the relevant robot snippet below!
Up until now, every feature film shot in full IMAX (of which there have been only a handful – The Dark Knight, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, The Dark Knight Rises, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, Star Trek Into Darkness and now The Hunger Games Catching Fire) has filmed with a 65mm 2D IMAX film camera. IMAX has a 3D film camera available, but most filmmakers find it too big and loud to actually use. (Star Trek Into Darkness is the only of those films to be exhibited in IMAX 3D, but it was post-converted.) It wasn’t until recently that IMAX created a 3D digital camera, which will allow 3D capture in full IMAX. The first filmmaker to use that is Michael Bay on Transformers: Age of Extinction. That camera is much smaller and lighter than the other IMAX 3D cameras and will be used quite a bit in the future. There is no 2D digital IMAX camera, but one is being developed.
After the confirmation, a while back, that Steve Jablonsky will be returning to score Transformers: Age of Extinction, we have another musical tidbit to report. Seibertron.com member mooncake623 has spotted electronic musician and DJ Steve Aoki tweeting about discussing Transformers with Michael Bay - does this mean he will also be contributing to the film's music?
